the way I see it, people here don't have problems with overpaints, it's just when people lie about it. Which happens all to often unfortunaly. |

Krobar, i love the image and if i were you i would just put on a big smile and keep up the good work.
(look at all these "paintover" comments as compliments, it must be THAT good
And as for every one else.. shame on you
I think theres a few too many people who need to have a paper bag to breathe into every time they think about posting a reply on these boards

Thanks all for your great comments...
i decided to forget this #%&?"@ illustration and all her discusses. Everybody believe what he wants to believe, and me i will continue to be the more honest with all of you. I passed some hours with my old scanner that scann 1 picture in half hour, for show you more of my work! I only posted here sketches digital or no, and never full digital illustration like this one, because this one is one of my first one. I'm more traditionnal, but i work everyday on computer but it's for webdesign.
I successed my passage beetween traditionnal and digital by looking everyday here in this forum, by testing your tutorials, by drawing and drawing everyday. I expect do again an illustration like this one, an illustration which generates as much noise, but more positive :-) so check the gallery, i will post more, and make noise! |

If he was inspired by my art I think that's great, if he wasn't that's great also. I have no problem with inspiration we are all inspired by someone or something.
In my book this is an overpaint "which I have no problem with".
The reason artists get so crazy about this is that most of us work our whole life busting our ass to get our anatomy correct. when someone misrepresents themselves "by using a photograph" its a blow to our years of hard work as well our ego. That's is why this post is so controversial.
Fact:
1. I have no problems with inspiration.
2 I think its disingenuous when people misrepresent themselves.
3. I use this board to learn different techniques, that's hard to do when people misrepresent themselves.
4. I have no problem with over paint, matter of fact I have no problem with any style of art as long as the artist honist.
5. In my artistic vocabulary a slightly painted over photograph is an over paint.
For all those who cares, that's my two cents.........

Id also love to see the pencil drawing upclose, at the moment it just looks like a grey scayle, i just cant seem to see any pencil marks, if we had a nice clear upclose scan on the face (and breasts)then we would easily be able to see your pencil work. ive looked at both pics VERY closely and have came across some features which would normally be missed by the human eye if it were not for a magnifying glass E.G. an incredibly minute bump above her lip appears in the exact same position in both pics other features like this are also exact across the face. also you seem to have used the "colour to target" tool for the hair and some of the dress as i can clearly see where you have overlapped onto the skin turning it a shade of blue. im amazed as to how someone who can supposedly create such "cut N paste" perfect image can make such obvious mistakes, please explain |

I have to pipe up here...
I think the point that people are trying to raise, is the fact that this board demands honesty. It is pretty easy to see (to me anyway) that in fact there wasn't much of a drawing done on the woman's body. I personaly have no problem with that, except for the fact that he tried to make us believe that he had penciled it out.
Just be up front. Tell us that you loved the photo so much you decided to add to it with some drawing. No biggie.
Not trying to stir the pot, just trying to point out what irks people around here.

Funny.
You could write a brilliant essay about sociology (hope i wrote it right, I'm not a native englishspeaker/writer). First someone starts to flame, the other follow, than it gets somehow unpopluar and a lot of people start to get friendly, most of the rest follows. Just something I noticed reading this thread. I'm still convinced (even after looking at the tutorial), that most parts of the picture are an overpaint. No problem with it. But for god sake, let's stop debating over it. I promise this will be my last post to this topic.
And hey, the real world is unfriendly enough... |
