I'm going for traditional portraits with digital painting - could be an oxymoron...

At any rate, here is a portrait of my wife and our total family member, Duchess... done with a Wacom tablet and Photoshop.

That's really quite good. My only thought is that I would use larger brushes but that's just personal taste. Well done. I've been trying my hand at portraits as well and damn can it be hard.

Kudos.

Agreed, by far your best portrait.

You have an incredible amount of talent, and a very unique 'freshness' to your work. Awesome. You never cease to amaze..

It really looks like the picture. I can tell she's real just by looking at the painting/rendering because it shows so much character. Good work!

Thanks for the comments...

I haven't been around for a while because I was vacationing with my family over the holidays and then getting accustomed to a new computer built for me by a friend. What a machine - a beast, you might say. A PC with 2 processors, 2 monitors and 2 gigs of RAM. Such a pleasure to work on. So cooooolll!!!

Can you show us a photo of this monster?

SWEET.

One question....Why not put the monitors side by side? Also, how do you use 'stacked' monitors in Photoshop? Is there some advantage to this I should know about?
Sorry for all the questions, it's just I've been looking into getting a second monitor for a while now and I'm trying to find out what would work best for me.
I've heard Craig Mullins uses duel 20"'s side by side. I have a 17" right now and I was just going to get another one to match it. Placed side by side of course...
Plus, how do you set up your wacom to work with your monitors set up like that?

Enquiring minds want to know.

M

BTW~ I have that exact same Intuos tablet.

omg, the only thing better than your computer system would be theportrait. Looks like the monitors are placed like that to save space . That case looks sooooooo huge. I need a new computer heh.

Malachi,

I have the monitor on top of each other so that the tablet (mouse action) can work the same way when I've turned the tablet sideways. When turned sideways, the upper part relates to the upper monitor (for resources) and the lower part relates to the lower monitor (for drawing). If they were side by side and I had the tablet in its normal position, using the right side for one monitor and the left side for the other, then I'd end up with a much smaller drawing surface... unless I didn't care about aspect ratios between the tablet and monitor.

With the Wacom, you can assign the entire tablet to one monitor. However, to then get to your resources on the second monitor, you have to use your mouse. I tried that briefly bu switching the mouse to my left side and drawing with the pen using my right hand. When I needed a resource, I'd lift the pen off the tablet surface and move the cursor up with my left hand. It worked, but felt very weird, so I chose the sideways tablet.

Something about her right knee (our left) freaks me out. I think it's a shading issue, but I'm not sure. The wrinkles in the foreground seem to be way to bright, or the back ones are way to dark, but there is way to much depth created, making her leg look deformed. Shouldn't take you to long to correct .

Very Nice pic

P.S (Your're speakers are so small compared to that beast of a machine, hehe. But then I suppose you don't really care about sound. Haha)
