I got an odd email a few days ago,
"Hi how are you I would like to ask you adivice on this file?" IM just thinking umm..
man this look dodgy so I straight away delete it..
ok so a few days pass, and I check my email..
I get like 30msgs saying host could not be found etc.. Virus found in e-mail returned..
So im like What??
and then i found out my sister had recieved the same e-mail..
she had opened it.. and the virus had travelled through the network to me.. and sent everyone in my address book this file..
So dont OPen it IF you GOT ONE>>
anyway.. im like hmm Whats it doing? not much so I did some research about this virus..
and this is what I found...
On 16 October there is a 1 in 20 chance that the worm will attempt to delete all files from the hard drive.
THEN WHY THE HELL DID IT WIPE MY HARD DISK ON BOTH MY PCS...
And this IS the same VIRUS...
well the filenames were identical to that on the site, also the message.
SO yea I lost everything..
Like all of a sudden my hard disk started rumbling im like hmm ok?
then after about a minute suddenly icons off my desktop started to disapeer, "hmm this is very strange" What i didnt realise is that when the files were beimng deleted..
I then check c drive.. olny files remaining were in the windows directory..
ALL MY ARTWORK psds and everything.. Like I had them backed up on two computers..
both computers wiped...
my 300 contact icq list gone..
all my little nifty downloaded programs gone..
itas gonna take me a while to rebuild my computer.!!!
anyone else experience anything like this..
And now my home network IS Stuffing up
GGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA...

that must suck lol..sorry...i don't know why i laughed after I read, just did.
Anyway thanks for the warning, and suggest to you a firewire harddrive for backup purchases from now on 
format and start over is all you can do now....oh and kill your sister....

Yeah I had the same file sent to me. I deleted it though.
for the rest of you make sure you have the option to view the extensions on your files on. You will see that this file is named
*.doc.pif
the pif files is basicaly a MSDos command.
Sorry to hear about that man. Did you have any back ups on CD's or anything???

| *shrug* That's why I use web-based email. 1) I don't have an address book, 2) It's a pain in the ass to get attachments from Hotmail anyways, plus any virus would have to go through 2 different virus scanners before it gets to my hard drive. |

Man, that sux. There are programs for restoring harddrives, or at least parts of them. I have one that I think is freeware (I got it from a computer mag cd) and it's called Advanced Data Recovery. Works pretty well. It's in Swedish though. But I think there should be some similar programs in English. If you don't find anything in English I could write a little swedish to english list of words for you and send you Advanced Data Recovery.

Oh man....I got it to from Roundeye....I never suspected it because it was an attatchment from him and it said what freddio said up there....so I thought it was art...
But my computer is fine.

It got me too. Fucking thing. I was expecting a drawing from a friend. So when it came, and the document's name was ILLUSTRATED. I opened it. FUCK.
Had to spend some time reediting the registry etc etc. to get everything back to normal.
Reminder to self - don't take the Norton Antivirus software offline.  |
