Title: Abstract1
This has got to be one of my favorite pieces. It should be viewed on black background -- normal or upside down.
Critiques and comments welcome. |

I'm sorry, but I must confess that I still don't understand what's the point to paint abstract painting digitally. It's just different to see a 6-feet painting in front of you than a 640 x 864 image on your computer.
With that said, I can point out what I don't like about this piece. First, the composition is unbalanced, there is a huge white space on the top, and the bottom is filled entirely with colours. You can balance it out by adding more strokes on top of the image, or add some white on the bottom. Secondly, your colours lack variation. This problem is also related to the white background, the white background is massive, and it would be good if you could blend in some grey in the right spots. The same goes for red, blue, and yellow. Thirdly, the symbol you use around the white background also lack variation, and they look like anime lines.
Also, some note on making abstract art: Using primary colours is fine at first, but soon you'll begin to find your colour preference. With less colour, the painting will be able to build up more depth (the same goes for realist art too, see Ashley Wood's comic books). Good luck on your works in the future, I hope I didn't sound too rude. |

yup its 3d. i was actually trying to model a car with nurbs, then i thought, why not mess with the organisation of the splines, apply some metallic gradient ramps and see what happens. so this is what came out.
btw. you seem to be good at 3d yourself. from what i can see, your 3d arenas look excellent. however, i cant open them, when will they be up? |

I tried to post this already. But anyway here goes again..
This actually is one of my favorite peices. The colors give it plenty of depth. It has a nice musical quality to it and the white space provides relief. The repitition helps to enhance the composition.
The only problem with it as far as I'm concerned is the red triangle in middle is too big and that hurts the composition. But even Im not perfect.
Thanks to everyone who were inspired by it and for your comments. |

Light: I was wrong about you, I thought you seriously want some critiques, but clearly you're too proud. Well, nothing can change your mind. I feel like I've wasted my time.

Either you're really pathetic and arrogant, or are horribly failing in an attempt to be funny. If it's the former, I can tell you right now with no knowledge of abstract art that you clearly do not understand it and are trying too hard to be artsy and abstract, just for the sake of being abstract. That won't work. If however it is the latter, than just stop now, it was a horrible plan to begin with and it's not going to get any funnier if you keep it up. |

light... do you even read your replies? your last post a bunch of people told you that the pic sucked and looked like it was drawn by a 5 year old and you say "I'm glad this piece has invoked a lot of emotion. I've seriously studied it and must say I'm still quite pleased with it.
I may do some more like this." but yet you didn't even have one positive response?
are you just posting this, not even reading your replies, and assuming that everyone is saying "my gosh, you are so great! i wish i had your skills!"???? heck, you say "this is no copy" like only someone great could do this.
sorry if i'm biased, but i don't like blotches of colors thrown onto a canvas and then have the person say they're an artist showing a lot of emotion. i don't see how it takes any talent, skill, time,...etc. all you need to learn is some basic composition skills. |

I really truly hate to even reply to this because there are much better things that are being pushed down because of this thread. so if you read this Please go comment on one of the 0-3 reply posts.
ok but seriously anyone else believe that you shouldn't have to try and "justify" your work? Obviously some people don't get everything but when it comes to making what deep down you know you did jack SH@t and then trying to say it is "so deep" or "you just don't get it" It is really sad. Justification doesn't make art and that seems to be what a lot of this more "modern" stuff seems to be. I think it is mostly a waste.
after saying that I don't actually believe this light guy is for real.

Light, I really enjoy doodling with painter. You get instant texture and overlapping stuff that ps just doesn't do quickly. Try it if you haven't. |

honestly, if you want to master drawing with a tablet or mouse, you should first learn to master drawing on paper. I cant draw well on paper yet, thats why i dont even try to do it with a tablet. And thats what you should do. put some effort in your work, and people will take you seriously.

Probus,
that's a beautiful piece you've just displayed. How did you do that? You mentioned nurbs. IS it 3d? |

well - its messy - I'll give it that. I wont crit as I like realism and I dont understand "abstract" to me its the same word as "messy" and prompts me to wonder what the point is. |
