This one was an attempt to try a different rendering technique. I used only the paint brush with hard edged brushes and a couple of texture brushes for the background. After blocking it in I used the smudge tool to move the color around to (hopefully) give it a more hand done feel. I used no paths, everything was hand done over a scanned line drawing. Ignore the bike design please, I will fix that later, I would like to hear some ideas on the color, background, and techniques, or whatever you like, I'm sure I will learn from any input I get. Thanks.
Sorry about the double post, can I delete one somehow?

Wonderfully painted, Scott! The bike looks like some ultra-hi-tech harley davidson and has a nice design. The leather outfit the cirl is wearing is well-rendered too.
Something bothers me about the perspective on the concrete floor, though. I think the bike is at the wrong angle on the picture. It's hard to say why it looks wrong, but I reckon if you turned the bike about 5 degrees in a clock-wise direction, it would look like it's sitting on the pavement better.
It's a great looking image. I love it! That's just the only flaw I can see. |

I really like the image too, the girl and the bike look very cool, but the background could maybe have "some" more detail... it looks a bit lost to me, as this should be a town or sth... just a suggestion ... cool work! |

Hi There. Love the leather outfit and the bike. The thing that bothers me most is the perspective of the background. If the light is coming from the left foreground, like the shadow of the bike suggests, I don't see how the alley behind the girl could be in shadow. I'd also put some more work in the face and the hand. Otherwise great work! |

I really like your pic, nice work.. still needs polishing though, like you said.
I think the problem with the perspective is that the vansihng points are too close together. Just llok at how fast the paving sections converge.. too fast.
The corner of the bilding looks kinda strange too.. hmm. don't ask me why. |

I think the reason that the bike looks like it's floating is because the tires are not flat where they contact the pavement. Tires should give a little under the wieght of the vehicle but yours are perfectly round all the way. If you adjust the tires where they meet the pavment so they give in relation to the perspective you shouldn't have to move the bike at all.
Excellent drawing.

The walls are really funky.(great image BTW). The way the shadow is falling on the wall, it makes it look like bevelled corner rather than a shadow falling on a flat wall. That's probably what's throwing people off. Some easy possible fixes:
1)Show the building casting the shadow
2)Show where the ground meets the shadow and the corner of the building(hidden behind bike now)
3)Include a structural detail that lies in both shadow and light - could be a ledge, window(although not that close to the corner), or a big crack that's straight enough to connect the two.
Great work, if I make it out to Santa Monica I'd love to take some classes :] |

great rendering! i like the image a lot.. i think the reason the bike looks a bit wonky is due to the front wheel... if you look closely (and compare the front wheel to the back) the perspective is a bit off... it looks as if the wheel is turned slightly without the rest of the bike supporting that... other than that, imho the image is pretty darn solid... keep up the good work... |

Thanks to everyone for the crits. I agree with almost all of the points. I'll post the rework as soon as I get around to it. I'm trying to decide if it is worth trying to fix it not. I might just bash out a new one instead.
Thanks again for all the comments. |
