A pretty quick exercise based off a sketch I found laying around. Dunno where it came from or how long ago I did it but I decided to make something of it.

Thank you EBE... I did this in Photoshop 5.5. As for what tools? Nothing special... just paintbrush and stuff, but I do have a few custom brushes I use.

He's got a unique shape for a head and a very wide mouth, which seems quite practical for breathing fire. I like how you've shaped the head differently from the typical dragon styles. The colour scheme used looks wonderful, too.

This is just me, but i think the long light strokes that form the frilly parts of his ears don't fit the scaliness of the rest of the dragon. The transparent skin between the spines looks too smooth and refined for such a scaly beast. Perhaps you coudl make them more mottled.

Also, I've seen some films where the start of the flame coming from a dragon's mouth is blue-coloured to show it's extremely hot. I think the addition of that colour would work in this.

Hope that's useful. Wicked stuff, Jez!

Thanks you guys

High - Yeah, you're probably right about the texture in that area. If I get around to working on this again that will be the first thing I fix. But this was just a quick exercise, I wanted to make neat fire

Hey Jezebel, just wanted to say how much I'm loving your work lately! Getting that loose, gritty, rawness with really cool lighting. Think you're really developing a kickarse painting style, and pretty rapidly too. Loving it

I be coming down your chimney tonight and stealing all your textures and custom brushes
