It's an older Luke in a scene from a SW-book that i can't remember the name of.
The picture went through a lot of changes
during the making.
You can go and see the final version with Logo here:
Starwars gamer final
Comments and crits welcome.

Yeah, I think this is cool too. I love the background trees in the upper left hand corner. My only crit involves the hands. They look 3D rendered, but his face is clearly painted. Maybe it's the size of the .jpg? Still, very cool.

very nice Micke!
I only have very few things to nitpick.
Lukes pose is very awkward and not really that great. The pose really doesn't help the composition at all... Also having the face at a full frontal while the body is sligthly turned is no good idea imho. It kills 'line of action' in the figure.
The glow under his(!) left armpit doesnt make much sense, since the backround behind him is dark... yes, a very little thing I know
Other than that, I really think you did a nice job. Love the ground with the transparent leaf'es and lots of texture. Great stuff!

"Lukes pose is very awkward and not really that great."
Then again, Luke is very awkward and not really that great. lol
I have to agree in some respect to the pose in that the lightsabers end up being too inline with the two trees on each side of the clearing and it kinda screws with the composition I think.
And yet it is so well done I almost feel stupid critiquing it. |

I think that the composition is just fine. You guys have to realize that this is a magazine cover (game cover...what ever) It has text over the image.
This means that the compostion is not finnished until the graphic designer types all over this beautiful painting! (which I wish that they didnt!!!)
Also about the glow under the arm...you are right that it doesnt make sense. I think it would have looked nice without the round glow spots.
This is so well done. I wish the subject matter wasnt starwars though. I hate all the starwars art out there...seems thats what all sci-fi art is today....nobody is creative enought to paint or model thier own sci-fi characters that have nothing to do with starwars? (I realize this was a job. It is not a comment to this artist...just a statement) |

Its about time !!!
Damn that is a kick ass covor bro ! Uhh Luke's pose may not be that dynamic, but he looks like he is walking around through some brush in the forest .I don't see anything wrong with it myself ,because if you think about it your not always standing like a super hero when your walking through thick shrubery,..am I wrong ??

Awesome work Mikael! Your paintings often look like they're painted with a palette knife.. very original. |

I agree with what one person said earlier: tha the rendering style on the face does not match the hands. (Probably had to re-paint the face a few times?? I know how that happens on licenced characters.)
Anyway, I love the background, and the hands are great. |

Well offcourse you like the hands, he..
The painting went through many changes..Mostly Luke. First i made the pose pretty static, take a look here.
, but they wanted a more dynamic pose, so i based it one one of my other sketches. Since i had to redo Luke time was running out, so i just photographed Chester's hands and pasted them in and adjusted the colours on them and retouched them a little bit. I can see very clearly that they don't match the rest of the picture now.The final picture is based one one of 5 sketches i did and i'm happy it ended up with another pose than the original(wich was way too boring i think.). Still, this one has it flaws
Crits for myself would be the area by his legs and feet. It's simply too flat and as a picture(without logos and text it does'nt work too well).
The backlight is too heavy in certain areas
like the crouch and armpit(i totally agree with you here, Boomstick)..
Also i think the colours are a litlle too much, the AD wanted it that way, but i could probably solved it in some other way.
Please crit some more, i need to get better in solving problems when working under pressure. I think every points that you guys mentioned is very valid.
Thanks a bunch
edit: Yes, Redleader, i repainted the face quite some times. They wanted him to be older than in the original movies, so it was pretty hard finding good referances of Mark Hamills face.
And oops! It's not Joachim that's typing this, i just found out that he's logged on this computer i'm typing on(sorry, J)

I think the illustration is well done generally. The pose is indeed a bit odd. haha and one stupid comment : He is so greedy~ Take two sabers.
I personally like the vegetation very much. The detail of the vegetation is clear and detailed. Full marks there~.
Overall, i would say this is very well done.
