Great! But I think the path on the closest hill looks a tad too steep (is that the word?) |

Yeah, Spectrum this baby. So pretty.... and a nice sized post too. When the pic is this good, you GOTTA post a big one.
I think there are many artists here who are Spectrum level artists, but they don't bother submitting.
Good job, Steven! |

No, the path is not too steep.
The slope is very similar to the slope of path that leads to the top of Mt. Snowdon in some places.
If I'm not mistaking. (It's been three years.)
This image was improved a thousandfold! |

Nice painting..
I dont have a lot of critiques for this picture but a few personal/mental notes.
The leg on the girl in the front looks slightly flat or wrong.
The texture on the bridge seems slightly out of place. This depth of field effect could be put to better use.
The shoulder/arm position looks slightly wrong.
I think what I dont like about this picture is you have created two strong focal points for both the girls and they tend to conflict a bit.
Also, the technique is a slightly inconsistent. I think itd look better if the two girls overlapped or had some better eye contact.
Good work though.. |

This has turned out quite beautifully!
My only crits:
- The back part of the hair of the singing faery looks a bit rough.. maybe a few more defining highlights / shading for some of the strands?
- Something about the wing of the singing faery bugs me.. i guess its that multi-colored shimmer effect. I love the idea of that but it looks a bit pixelly and out of place.
other than those minor things.. i think you have a gorgeous piece here! ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

that's just gorgeous... it's adorning the desktop of both my computers right now...
anyways, i agree with the shimmery wings bit... it almost seems like they fell victim to the godawful jpeg compression devil... |

I love the piece. Extremely peaceful to look at... that girl that's lying down...she looks awfully asian though... hehe *grin*
One minor thing that I'm not sure is intended or not.. is the area the foot enters the water. The surface just looks unbroken .. and, i guess it may be beneficial to see some of the leg reflection... or to add just a tad bit of motion a bit of ripples? Because I can't imagine someone sitting on a dock playing a guitar without kicking their legs in the water.
Beautiful though. I love the wings on the left. |

that looks really gorgeous!
I think the level of detail put into the wood on the side there should decrease gradually as it goes further away from us. As opposed to switching from intricately crafted wood to ordinary planks where the sitting faerie's leg is.
I'm glad you removed the bottle-fish ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

good work...I don't even know how to photoshop paint...so I don't even know how you'd go about something like this.
Besides the foot into water thing everybody is talking about....the only other thing I see wrong is the hand playing the guitar (lute?)...it just seems a bit off...a bit flat compared to the rendering of the hand holding the neck of the guitar. Also, it seems like the back ground is just a painted backdrop. I almost wish there were something more midground to help carry your eye into the space better.
nice work though. |

That's a very beautiful image. The designs on the girls' wings are amazing, and their hair looks just like silk. It's fascinating to watch this picture evolve like this, Steve. Thanks for going to the effort to finish, as I'm sure you must be getting bored of doing the same subject for so long.
Agree on the removal of the bottle-fish as it didn't quite fit in the scene, IMO.
And there's nothing wrong with the girl on the right being asian. She looks really cute!
One crits would be on the wood of the jetty just below the left girl's cushion. It looks just a little too deep on the reddish colour and might need to be desaturated a little. |

Thanks to everybody!
I agree with all the crits except maybe about the Asian look, which I personally happen to like. I made an update (overwrote the old one), where I fixed a few things, like I opened the right one's eyes a little, moved her left, darkened one of the hills in the background, changed the 'lute' a little, made the design on the edge more consistent, a few other minor things - except I forgot about the foot in the water, I'll do that later.
Submit it to Spectrum? Hm, you gave me an idea, probably not much chance but I should at least give it a shot. So I'll work some more on this, before the deadline, which is January 18 I think? |

The foreground is great but the background is incredible, like a painting by an impressionist master. |
