Who are your art heroes? Those talented artists who stand out in your mind and whose work inspires you to greater graphic works..
Mine are -
Dhabih : I was amazed by his mag covers. Then I stumbled on his page one day, and instantly added it to my favourites when I saw the gallery. Love it, Dhab! <applauds>
Joe Madureira : of Battle Chasers fame. Just pick up the comic, or the recent collected hardcover of BC #1-5. Beautiful! His anime-inspired style is great!
Craig Mullins : in-freaking-credible. Love that Macross image, even though iut reminds me of Transformers more than Macross. Deceptacons, TRANSFORM!
Bill Watterson : Calvin and Hobbes. Need I say more? Simple, yet great art combined with two now cultural icon characters and great gags and plots...
I have more, but I can't remember then now... I'll be back with more later

Mullins, here, too.
Also Dave Mckean.
Although I wouldn't call them heroes, just people who make me go 'whoa, I need to practice more' |

All those below + Micheal Turner (though all his boys are huge and his girls are 40-20-40)
Great art.... lack of good plot in Fathom. |

How could you guys miss Todd McFarlane!? .. Given, he is crap now, but that's just because he doesn't draw anymore. But Spawn 1-20 or so (excluding issues by Greg Crapullo) were incredible.
In addition to him, Dhabih, Craig Mullins, Christian Haley, Jason Passons, and Steve Garafolo server as my "art heroes".

Definitely Brom and Frazetta for me as well. I also really dig Luis Royo, Phil Hale, Rick Berry (http://www.braid.com -- an incredible digital artist), and John Bolton (http://www.johnbolton.com). On the comics side, I've always loved Brian Bolland, Adam Hughes, and Kevin Nowlan. |

Miller is great, of course, just haven't seen his work for a while.
The name Hugo Pratt came to mind just now, his work is great. (The best-known of which is probably Corto Maltese)

I found this guy a while ago, and I don't know if he followed Craig Mullins' style or Craig followed his, but their styles are strikingly similar (-remember, I said style, not talent--Mullins is better=)-).
He also does stuff for like movies and simulation rides'n stuff.
Check his site out at: http://www.alyudesign.com |

Does anyone know the name of the artist who did the animated series Aeon Flux. I think his style was awesome.

Peter Chung is the guy that did Aeon Flux, some cool stuff. If we start getting into designers there's some really cool guys like Syd Mead or even Doug Chiang. I consider some architects in that category as well, there's some awesome work out there from guys like Michael Graves, Frank Gehry, Mies van der Rohe, Antonio Gaudi...

It's really interesting to read who people like when it comes to art. There have been many mentioned that I totally agree with, but strangely quite a lot that I totally disagree with too .
My list in no particular order;
Craig Mullins (been a HUGE influence on my own stuff and probably the artist I most admire right now)
Syd Mead
Frank Frazetta
Ray Harris-Ching (Frazetta-style wildlife artist)
Kruger (the German caricature artist)
Thomas Kinkade (was surprised to see someone else mention him too)
Carl Brenders (photorealistic wildlife artist)
Alex Ross (only just gets into the list..)
Ken Scott (can't help but be influenced by his Q3A work)
Wayne Barlowe (for his alien designs in Expedition)
RA (old-school demo artist)
Bob Stevenson (the artist that got me interested in digital art way back in the early C64 years - now one of the head guys at Planet Moon Studios)
Thats all I can really think of although I'm sure I could fill a book with artists that have influenced me in one way or another.
--
Shrimpish: the reason that artist looks a bit like the work of Mullins is because they are both heavily influenced by the work of Syd Mead. ie. they are both more like Syd Mead than they are of each other. Nice catch, BTW, there's some excellent art on that page.
