Like most of the images I finish this has been a disappointment, compared to the grand visions dancing through my head during the sketching stages. Oh well, c&c welcome.

I think this is awesome, it has a very dark mood to it.....not much action going on but it's styling that way.I love the tank ;0 good work |

I especially like the area around his hand/forearm, nice gloves and such. Ed-- |

Nice dark style - is this pencil?! The mechanical background is so well done, esp. those chain-link treads. The raindrops running off the tank make it look like its rolling very slowly.
The soldier is too bulky - I think he needs a much slimmer weapon, legs and arms + a more detailed, maybe rounded helmet? The shading on him is great though, a shade darker than the background which makes him stand out.
Just my 2 cents... |

Excellent work, Steve! The dark, foreboding mood of this image is very strong. The strange mask that the soldier and the HUUUGE tank tracks next to him make it so freaky. I love the sepia look and all the noise in the background image! |

goddamnit!!! |sigh| add this to my reasons why i dont particularly want to throw up my stuff. hrmmm well personally i think porportionally this is excellent, with my only urking being the top of the helmet, the rest is just awe-inspiring. captures a rather bleak and temendously powerful mood.
great work.

I love seeing pieces that inspire me (even if they depress me a bit because I'm don't think I could accomplish something likek this). This is a great piece! Can you tell me what you used to do it? I'm keeping this piece in my "cool pics" folder

once again amazing work, i really like the mechanical part of the tank. it looks like the guy is walking dangerously close to the tank though, what would happen if his coat got stuck between the machinery?

It more looks like art for Warhammer 40k than for Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Atleast the tanks aren't *that* big in real life. Although germans did create a fat ass tank that couldn't go over bridges because it was too heavy. |

Wow! Steven, this is a great and strong piece! Reminds me of European artists like Juan Gimenez and Enki Bilal. My only crit is only a tiny design issue. The way the cape/coat covers the helmet and mask looks wrong to me somehow and it don't look very practical. Besides from that it's completely stunning.

everyone else praises, and I do to, but I think I will give you some crits, cause thats what I want more than praise when I post something.
the tank and the man look like they were painted at two different times cause the lighting is different. the man is very contrasty with brighter brights and darker shading. it almost looks like the soldier is standing next to a photo. 2 things could be done, the tank could be darkened up some or the guy could be lightened
is it raining? if so it looks like it is only raining in front of the tank. i thought that it might have been going through a puddle and that was just water from the ground but then I realized that it sould have to be moving backwards. put some more highlights in the rain, put some more noticable rain between the guy and the tank and in front of the guy. would also be nice to have some rain splashes on the guys and his gun.
I guess thats it. great painting though. |

Thanks very much everybody. I don't know Warhammer but I did see someone play Wolfenstein, perhaps it sparked something, I don't really know. Yes, I love Enki Bilal's work too.
About the cape I thought it was a cool feature to have it riveted to the outside edge of the helmet, now I'm not so sure. Yes I should put more rain in but it's hard, it feels like I'm trashing my 'baby' you know... hiding/obliterating things I worked very hard on... But I'll think about it, I still have the layered PS original so I can easily experiment. |

Inspiring, extremely well done, great mood.
Perfect...
How about some mud being thrown up by the heavy tankchains and the soldiers feet?
Eager to see more of this! |

agreed.. the tank is a little too clean. Maybe add some mud sticking to the track and falling off. But I still like the image a lot. |

I checked out Enki Bilal's web-site, but the interface is so vague and confusing. You can only relying on understanding the french tool-tips to figure out where the link will take you |
