hi guys, this is a page from my sketchbook. i draw people on the subway on my way to school. these lucky people get to be immortalized . muhahahahahaha

ack! nothing frightens me more than purple people on the subway! tight man. how long did these take? about 5 to 7 mins each?

Nice. Do people tend to veg out while they wait for their stops? They all look rather out of it.

i usually go for the sleeping few, but they don't take more than 2 or 3 stops for long ones, that's about 4 or 5 minutes. going from manhattan to brooklyn is 20 minute ride, so that's good for a longer pose.

Okay, I've tried this before to varying degrees of success- see, I keep looking up from my book and at the "model" and then back down again, whilst furiously scribbling... This is usually noticed by people around me, and sometimes the subject. Do you ask them first? or have you developed some technique? maybe sunglasses?

Mmm, this is something I'll miss doing since I've finished my course (won't be travelling into the city everyday). Did this pretty much every trip (or at least when I could get a seat). Though none of mine came out this clean. Spose I'm more of a sketchy guy, but did you clean these up afterwards, or are they train-only work?

kahboom - I never mind about the people around me. It keeps them entertained, I find. The subject... I've only been caught drawing them once (twice really, but she just grinned and returned to her pose *grinz*). I say if you get caught, look at someone/somewhere else until they look away. If they keep looking back, draw someone else. If the person is fine looking though, do your very best and ask them if they like the drawing @;-)

if they're not asleep, i just pick some weak looking people who would not beat me up too bad..... otherwise, i only draw people who are too tired to hit me. lol.... most of the time people don't mind if you draw them as long as you don't stare too much.... if they notice, just smile. and if they turn away, stop drawing and finish the drawing in your head. i never ask.
