Hi there ...
Strange motive for a christmas present .. unless it's for a shoemaker ..
It's hard to judge an oilpainting from a photo, but it looks nice. The textures look convincing, a bit flat overall maybe .. a "contrastpiece" might be good, to increase the feel of depth, and add a bit to the "story of the picture" maybe a shoemakers tool (awl)? or a brass button randomly lying around out of focus in the background ? I dunno, something like that .. I hope I make sense ...
Of course the oilpaint would never be dry in time to wrap it up for christmas .. oh well .. next christmas perhaps ..
That's all ..

love the texture and colours alot, it seems really dark and hard to see but the may be the monitor settings. But I'd like to see more of your work, looks like you have a great oils technique |

I like it it has a "muddy" feel to it. Maybe a fisherman could get a present like this...it'd be fun if he hung it on the wall next to a stuffed fish entitled "my greatest catch"...yes - that would be divine.
some neat shiny thing would be cool. What do you call those little metal stars that go "clink clink" when cowboys walk around. Used as a substitute for a gas-pedal on horses.
How long does it take to dry oilpaint? Could one put a fan/hairdryer on it to make it dry faster? |

thanks for the comments! Some good ideas from both of you HawkOne and Novacaptain. I realize that its a strange image to give away - Next year I'd start painting _before_ Christmast
Oil dries extremly slow I painted this first in B/W acrylics and then 3 layers of oil on top of that. Each layer was touch-dry in 1-3 days. I've never tried fan/hairdryer :-) Though.... it could work. At least room-temprature affects drying time. I have something called Siccative Courtrai that makes oil dry much faster, but i dont use it (its noxious because of the lead it contains)
I have to go,,,, Happy Holidays ppl! |
