That guy is SO not a bass player, at least not in this picture. That thing, my friend, is a cello; basses are four times that size, and slightly differently shaped. The shoulders (body of the bass on either side of the neck (thing with finger board)) of a bass have a much steeper slope.
I hope you're not offended, but if you're going to go around and get real-life bass players excited about a picture of a bass player, then dammit, man -- the thing better be a real bass. Especially since your picture looks so absolutly awesome in every other respect.
It looks very life-like for a cello. Pfft. ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

hey thanks guys for the replies
shasha, thanks for your interesting comments
i agree it seems to be very small for a bass
Thought, the photo i took for reference was referencing to a bass and not a cello; i can email you the photo if you re interested
i m not an expert but the father of my girlfriend is a bass player, he told me there was different sizes of basses depending on the height of the person playing it, in the past kids began to play with cellos coz small basses didn't exist, now there is tons of different sizes !, the player in the photo seems to be short, that could explain the thing
Anyway i wanted to paint some kind of jazz musician, cello or bass it was not my main focus

hmmm... I'm not sure though toast... I mean he IS sitting down... when you play upright, normally the bass goes a bit over your head even... and I agree with sasha about the shape too... I'd say that's a cello (plus the head is tiny for a bass)
other then that, omigosh that's nice =) |

I like it, even though it might look like a cello =)
And I checked out your website. Great stuff! I love the trumpet player in the illustration section.
Stuff like this makes me want to find a good host and start posting again. I haven't posted a image since geocities stopped working. I would love to see a thread similar to the speed painting thread, but just with pictures of people dancing and playing music. Want to help me start one? |

wow, thats not a bass , i find that extremly offensive and i'm going to sue you
Anyway, with the pic, i really like it, look like its done with color pencil at some part, and water color at another part, which is very cool! Oh, and the blue/red black ground is seems like acrylic.....hmmmm, PS can't do this...it must be painter. Ok, i making less and less sense. Sorry.
My point is, this pic is beautiful ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

I agree that this is not a bass, because I have one, a violin and viola and two guitars. But (embarassingly so), I've never scene a cello actually played that way. I would love to hear the sound that that would create...
As far as your art work, I like your color composition although the orange highlight encircling the figure I find a bit too distracting. Maybe shrinking it down to half it's width? I don't know. Whatever works. I also find your strokes a bit too linear and what I would do (because I do it myself) is to cross stroke your lines to help soften up your image and add more characer...
My 2 cents...
Nice piece. We can tell you put a lot of effort into this and it shows.

Waldo, thanks for your help , I agree the strokes are a bit boring , i will try this on the next pic; this one has been already sent for print ..
Take care all
