Well, I've been experimenting a lot with new styles, lately. Just for the sake of fun. I don't know why, though, since I always liked my old style... I guess it's just a matter of me wanting to branch out a little.

Some people really like these new styles, but I received a letter from someone suggesting that I get back to what I know. That it is better to stick to one way of drawing and work to perfect that, instead of trying new things. I'm not so sure. I think it's good to develop in a myriad of different ways.

Anyway... enough talking. I just wanted to speak my thoughts on the matter, here are the pictures.

Beautiful work Enayla, you're getting better and better

Not sure if you wanted crits but just something I noticed on that first pic. The belly button doesn't seem to be centred with the allignment of the body as its twisting, think it should move more to the right (her left) and a touch lower.

Also the left arm on the second pic seems a little shapeless, wrist seems very thick and fingers too short.

They're great as they are anyhow but thought I'd point them out, incase you were still planning on working on these.

I think most of us draw because we enjoy it. If you enjoy learning new styles amd techniques(I know I do), then by all means do so. Only ever doing one art style is like only ever doing one martial art style-you may have your main one, but there's something to learn in each.

E. it seems to me that you should do whatever makes you happy and inspires you and if that means trying new things then that is what it means. However it does seem to me that if someone wanted to persue a career in freelance it would be better to be masterful at a certain style. These are my to fav paintings by you by the way!!!

If this is the result when you experiment, I don't see how anyone can tell you to stop. I definitely like the more refined style, and I think you should keep doing whatever you feel like doing, because there's always someone who's going to love it.

Wow - great! Maybe it's me but it still lloks like your stuff. If I'd seen it without a caption I would have probably one or two names spring to mind. I think it maybe a different subject matter that may seem different. Most of your other portrait images seem very focused on the faces, which, as always are exceptional! In these images there seems to be a bit of a different focus.

Very cool. Any chance the angel may be offered as a print?

Enayla, I think you are even better since I last saw an image from you. I reckon that may have something to do with your experimentation, because you probably enjoy it a bit more, and that is reflected in the quality of these pictures.

How long did these take you? I am interested in the process, the way you draw shapes then refine them, sorta like making a blob first then shaping it with background and foreground... is that what you do? Sounds like spooge's method. He says he can't draw good lines with a Wacom...

Zorglub: That’s very nice to hear =) I guess those are really my favourite parts, too. Though in the second image, the position of her mouth really took the longest.
JohnC: I only have some old tutorials, on how to draw hair, and of how to draw mouths... but I don’t even think I have them online now. Though I work both in Painter and Photoshop, these two images were drawn in photoshop. As to how I work...
I always start working with big blotches of colour. That way, I tend to get the colours and the composition down (as well as the mood) before narrowing down to details. I work myself down to details. Shape by shape. Usually starting with the face, going to the hands, the upper body, the hair... The eyes I draw in at a slightly early stage because they give direction to the entire image. That’s all the advice I can give you, but most people are usually more comfortable with a very nice sketch at first. I’m not. Can’t really say how long I’ve been painting =) Those of us who do paint, haven’t we been at it since we were children?
Sumaleth: Thanks =) The references are a wild mix of paper ads, online pictures of people, pictures taken with my webcam (for hands if the position is difficult – I have no mirrors nearby the computer so that makes it easier). I try to use references very loosely, and to pick the lighting out of my imagination rather than from a photo.
Cos: Thank you =) And you’re absolutely right about the crits. I think I will work more on the Princess image, because I really feel for that one. *scribbles down notes, murmuring to herself*... too thick wrist...

wow. these are very lovely. can't really find anything to crit though sorry.

personaly i think sticking with "what you know" and not branching out and trying new things is the worst advice you can give an artist. i say keep doing new things. it will only improve to your style and skill. it's always good to keep growing with your art.

anyways i probably just stated the obvious, but i felt the need to state my opinion

I definitely think you should experiment. From what I've learned, you can learn _a lot_ from working with different styles and mediums. I've been playing with markers lately. They are fun and erotic.

Wow. That robin is so precious. The detail you put into your fabric is so awe-inspiring. It seems that every stroke you make is done with the goal of simply creating something that is beautiful; and it shows in the finished piece. I don't think I know of another artist that creates anything more beautiful than what I see from you.
