Hah hah, you called me a loser, Poprocksz.
And, mindless or not, I'd love to stick it to Britney Spears like an animal. Rawr!

This thread had almost no redeeming value until I read Briareos' post mentioning Primus.
I'm glad SOMEONE decided to mention Primus and the whole Anti-pop thing.
A.Buttle: Spears is getting more and more rawr-able by the month. It's odd. |

Word up, Impaler. My loins ache for her and her supple young body. I don't think I can even say what I want to do to her.
Oh. Wait. I already did. Nevermind. I've got baby oil with Britney's name all over it . . . |

Fucking a, rock music should be dead. The whole rock thing is getting so uninspired and uncreative. Bands still try to sound like the Beatles, Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd for pete's sake. The thing about these bands is they took rock music when it was first starting out they made it into something. There were no rules, it was relatively new, it was stuff that had been untouched. Now we got bands doing the same shit for 50 years. It's time to evolve. Radiohead realized this, they're trying to go in a different direction and hopefully bring some of mainstream with them. And band's still are selling millions of records for just re-writing songs from The Bends.
I wish rock would finally die. |

ahhh... (relaxedly).
couple days back the kids were graduating at my local high school, long with my sister - I got out two years ago - anyway something cool that I noticed was that whole hell of a bunch of them wanted to be musicians as an aspiration, and, I noticed in the yearbook under many of them how they hate boybands and pop. very refreshing, cause nobody gave a shat about music in my class.
but anyway, this jaded-before-you've-heard-it Pop infestation is on it's way out one way or another cause real people are going to be making more and more real art, cause that's what we make art for - something meaningful, we need it.
the videogame industry is in the same funk, BTW, coming from roots of total imagination and freedom, into one engine fits all, one game fits all, cubicled 3d.
so it's a sad world on all counts, considering creativity is such an infinite, beautiful, capable force -- but greedy mofos blandly rip other people's work and summon even more greeders, so we get in big fucking ruts. I never did like money.

i agree, travis travis - the gaming industry
is really turning shoddy.
Its like all the developers think will make a good game is shiny and hi-res graphics, and gameplay is now considered very passe.
it is very sad ![](images/smiles/icon_sad.gif) |

Poprocksz: how can you say dre is better than 2pac? dre never raps about anything important.. 2pac rapped about more than just the normal rap shit, he has messages and points in almost all his songs.... dre doesn't deserve any repect compared to him. |

it's one thing to say pop is artistically garbage, because for the most part it is. but, unfortunately, it won't be going away anytime soon. as long as the first world keeps pumping out teenage girls with disposable income, there will be pop music (it's been around as long as r&b/rock . . . frankie lymon and the teenagers were a boy band, connie francis was a virginal 'diva'). and as music genres continue to fractionalize, pop will look bigger and bigger. . . it's the only genre that's scientifically tailored to hit at the lowest common denominator.

This was fun to read. What do you all think about Aerosmith? Ja-ja-ja jaded. I used to listen to them since so long ago, then I kinda stoped, Steve is such an old fart. =D
I agree, I think it's so great how Radiohead is trying all this new stuff. They are very popular, and they're still trying new shit. That's music. And another thing on radiohead. They've been a band, this could be a wrong figure, actually, screw the figure, they've been a band forever. Before they were 'Radiohead' they were called (80% sure this is right) 'On a Friday'. But, anyway, I have over 105 songs by Radiohead on my computer. That's one active band. Not that being active means anything, nsync is active too. I'm just saying that in my opinion, I think radiohead is playing music for no other reason than their upmost love for it. I think that's great. If anyone here hasen't heard the song on Pablo Honey called "Anyone Can Play Guitar", i suggest you find it... and listen to it . It just shows Thom's devotion to music. At least, if you listen to the lyrics. I guess it's all how you interprit it. =X
Hehe, I ramble way too much. Nice thread by the way. And it is late, pardon my spelling fuck-ups. |

The Eels. Everyone thinks they're Brit and they're actually Californian. I somehow have the impression that they are ignored by practically every radio station outside of the UK despite coming out with the some of the most incredibly touching and gritty music ever produced by three men and the weirdest drum set you ever had, so it would be nice if someone told me this wasn't the case and people actually know about them.
Coldplay. They're getting there.
Smoke City. Like a Latin Bjork and you've probably never heard of them.
Belle & Sebastian ought to be canonized some day.
The Wallflowers. No, I'm kidding. They're all right and they had quite a few nice songs, nothing ground-shaking but quite lovely. The only reason I can't shake them off my mind at the moment is Jakob Dylan. Anyone who paints a rocking portrait of him, I will shower Oreos upon. |

glad to see you care about your thread.
so you like nothing? well, so either stfu or make your own stuff the way you like it. whiny female dog.
no, really. what is your problem? they dont make the music you like anymore? so listen to the old stuff. it's not like you didnt have that option. if you think that everything released today is pseudo pseudo pseudo, you might even be right. but what are you planning to do? and what is the impact of that shocking revelation? maybe you're experiencing the first stage of getting old - losing the connection to today's 14-year-olds. (unless you are 14 yourself, that would make you a whiny bitch again) |

I really like this thread heh. I am glad to find that there are some bastions of music where BOy Bands don't reign supreme heh. Poprocksz you are thinking exactly what i am. I am sick of all this pop music that doesn't mean anything (*starts playing Alternative Music by Slapstick*). Its empty and without emotion. I wish bands like Op Ivy, The Impossibles, Catch-22, and The Aquabats were famous. There is so much underground stuff out there that is millions of times better than most of the pop out there. It may not be as technically proficient or recorded as well, but atleast you know (since they are making jack-shizzle) they mean thier music. I mean seriously, how much do those people (popstars) want to be doing that music if they have to be paid millions of dollars to do it!
Also another avenue of music i have been getting into has been Techno. There's a lot of good stuff in that realm too heh. I mean comeon, you have to love a type of music with a sub-genre called Hardcore. Heh. |
