Had an urge to draw something comicky, without color.
This took me about half an hour yesterday, and some touching up today (like enlarging the head etc). Tablet in PS in this res, no reference, just started with the head and worked down. First time I even attempt to draw batman...
c&c welcome.

Steven-
I think it's a really cool beginning; I raelly like the arm from the elbow down. You really nailed the structure and pose. The only gripe I have is that the upper arm just looks odd. The shoulder muscle (the deltoid, right?) looks like a huge round mass that just kind of attaches to the upper arm. and the bicep and seem a little lacking in form; they read as very flat compared to the very solid shouler and the detailed forearm.
Aside from this criticism, I really like the way you've handled the figure. I think you really do Batman justice. |

Hey Steven, I think your rendering of Batman is great. Probably the coolest batman in a long while (and I don't even like Batman=). |

Frost, we all know you love Batman, especially when he's gotten fat and wearing a g-string! |

I just polished it, and overwrote the old one. I took Joshua Albers crit to heart and tried to fix the deltoid, also added some background, bunch of other tweaks.
Yeah, I think Frosts Batty was cooler too. ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

Yikes that is cool. The texture really looks like spandex, latex type material; Alex Ross style... |

I think the subtleties in the shading are excellent, nice reflected light in the lower delt, great modelling. nice work on the costume with wrinkles, and a rubbery texture.
The only thing I don't like is the cleft/shadow on his left pec-a diagonal shadow moving from his medial upper pectoral to the nipple area, to me it looks too pronounced-probably just me... |

Hey steve,
Love the way the his cape wraps around his arm. I think the cape near the elbow might be a bit bright. Great stuff for a quicky.
Btw: you have anymore hot 3d chicks in the oven? (so to speak) I love your 3d stuff the most ^_^ |

Thanks everyone! Yes I forgot the spikes on the gloves! oops...
Here's my latest 3d chick, since you ask. Yes I know about the shoulder thing, it's a tricky area.

Friggen amazing model, my only crit would be her feet. Her talus seems to have slipped out from under her tib-fib at the ankle, making it look like her foot has been dislocated from the leg. Either that or she has the highest arches fathomable. Your Batman kicks ass too, his elbow bugs me, probably just because there are so many wrinkles. And yes Batmans forearm has spikey things but they are part of his gloves and he doesn't seem to be wearing them. So whatever.
Excellent model (what prog to you use?)
Keep it up.

That's Maya. Thanks for the heads-up, I'll try to fix it (but you know this stuff's like playing cards in boxing gloves sometimes...) ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

Hey Steve,
The model of the girl looks really good. Modeling a human being is prb the most daunting task, especially females. Anyway, my only comment right off da bat is her hair. Are you going to render realistic hair or is this a "stylized" look you're going for? Ed-- ![](images/smiles/icon_cool.gif) |

Thanks, Lunatique and Ed. Yes, you're right, the hair needs more texture. |

OMG steven, you are my 3d Female modeling GOD ::DROOLS::
What method are you using to model? I use maya to and have found a lot of different ways to model. Is that underwear modeled into the model itself or around? looks great. :) Btw, with the hair have you tried the FUR plug for maya? I've seen some really great stuff done with it in the past.
Are you rendering this in Maya also? soo many questions soo little time :( |

NextGen: thanks! I use SubD's for all organic stuff, especially if it needs to change it's shape in animation, like a face or an elbow. I keep the history, this gives great deforming, but of course has other little drawbacks.
The underwear's also modelled in SubD's, separately from her. She can move, but not WITH the underwear, not yet. So I have to adjust them manually for each pose.
No, I haven't tried Fur, except for the eyebrows. Maybe I should, but that's mainly for shorter hair right?
Yes also rendered in Maya, no particular plugins.
Dr.Bang, thanks! The pose is from a book full of cool poses called 'The Nude Figure, a visual reference for the artist". My wife doesn't mind, since this obsession with virtual characters is starting to pay our bills. (About bloody time I should add... but I won't.) ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

OMG! Steven, your 3D model is soooooo outstanding. I love every curve and swerve.
Someday I'll be able to paint 2D art that looks that nice. Maybe not soon, but some day.
Again, great work.

Steven,
The Batman is way cool. Love the simplicity. It's better than F. Millers latest Can you write? Maybe you could do Dark Night 3....
3D model is breathtaking. Much applause.
You have tutorials on your work, right? |

Thanks guys! Magpie: I do write, but I'm not very good. (For an example, see my screenplay, on my website.)
Tutorials: I have one old NURBS one, free version here, and a few pages of general cg advice, here. But that's it, there are much better tutes on the net nowadays, see Highend3d.com for instance.
