Has anyone seen or heard the new N*SYNC song....called POP.......They proclaim that
pop won't die and that they dodn't care what we think......basicly they're sayin FUCK YOU..pop is boring shit.....
I'm surprised that any child or teen would even like this music.....it's written by fat 30 year old men
and has no message but, BUY MY STUFF......
People say that rock is dead and in a way I agree......Shitty bands like Limp Bizkit,
Godsmack,Metallica(who used to be good),Disturbed,Saliva,Green Day,Offspring,
Blink 182,Sugar Ray,and etc(if i don't stop i'll be here all night)
are ruining what rock was about........
I don't think rock will make a comeback for a while..........
What is making a slow comeback is Psycadelic,
Progressive and New Wave.....in weird forms..
We need more bands like Radiohead and Tool...
More stuff like Depeche Mode and NIN
tell me what you think the music industry needs?
and please no jokes about my name(POPROCKSZ).....theres a story behind it

Yes, Things are just getting a little to POPY for my tasts. Even older bands are going to a more TeenyBopy sound to stay in the biz.
BAHHHH
But I found if you are forced to listn to something as bad as the Backstreet boys or some shit...it always helps to go grind your head and ears on the pavement after words hehe. =P

I can really smell the death of pop music right now. The BSB are sellin less CD than they used tobe, Nsync's loyal fan eventually gets old and listen to something else. The next era of music would be Rap and R&B. To me rock is still always around, recently i do a survey for class of over 200 ppls in my school, the question was : what music do you listen to. The most common answer was Rock, surprisinly Pop and Country are the least popular. I think now teenagers are realizing how uncool pop it and they'll eventually force themselves listen to the hardcore stuff.

I don't see any distinction between N*Sync and any of the bands that the trendies would consider "hardcore" (such as the angry white boy shit like Limp Bizkit and all that new metal bollox). They are both just as manufactured as each other and both are custom built for just one purpose: to sell records. The only difference is that they are designed to appeal to different markets. |

So what you're saying is, we need more bands to copy Tool and Radiohead to stop pop?
Isn't pop itself just a reciprocation of whatever was new and cool? |

How innovative can you really be and still sell a million records? How innovative are you if you still use a guitar in every track you record? Are you going to go out on any creative limbs when you have to make payments on a Bently?
Honestly, if you want good music, you need to get your ass out of Media Play and Best Buy and start listening to musicians who don't live in mansions. Every genre of music has an underground . . . and that's the only place you're going to hear anything genuinely new.
Reznor is just as commercial as a boy band, he just targets angsty boys instead of horny girls. He did a track for Tomb Raider for fuck's sake.
No matter how some may try and paint it, mass-marketed music is a product. Its not about art, its about the lead singer's haircut and a controversial video and a cool logo. If you want good music, be prepared to dig for it, because the suits at Sony aren't interested in putting art on your radio. |

Well might as well add my two cents and add some wood to the fire.
I do agree that pop is pretty shitty, but in away there is a reason that pop is there. Would you want a little 4 or 5 year old listening to Fred Durst rant and rant? or better yet listening to Slip Knot ( I actually like them btw.) NO, So there is and always will be a market for pop.
Is rock dead? No. It just has gone in a different direction, maybe the "true" rock has gone more underground. Who else thinks that Creed are a bunch of unskilled Pearl Jam wanna be? Thank you, I thought so. (had to throw that in)
I am glad that we still have bands like Tool, Radiohead, Type-O-Negative etc...whom will in one way or another tickle your gray matter.
No remember this also, they too need to eat...this is more along the lines for NIN or Slip Knot. It just so happens that they have a mass appeal now. Not many people would listen to NIN untill Downward Spiral came out, that particular album really helped him and NIN out a lot.
Here's one more morcel for you brain. We could even generalize this discussion towards art and commercial/Sci-Fi art.
Well enough jabbering I guess. |

Sisquo makes this much for that thong thong thong ?
Trick Daddy house, listen to his music and see if he really deserve all of this.
I dont call these people artist, cause they do it just to get rich. Once they get rich, you dont ever hear from them again. But some of the artist out there right now are for real. Take an example for Moby, he creates some of the most increrible music out there, hits after hits, and he sure doesnt do it all 4 the cash. I think he's quite popular but that doesnt mean i have to hate him. Some ppl just hate all thing popular, and based all their music listenin on others.

I must agree with everyone that feels Pop music is a pile of crap, well, because it is. Practically EVERYTHING with pop groups is manufactured, they dont write their own songs, they dont play instruments, the lip-sync, and they make god-damn boring music.
Rap music, mainly the commercial stuff, is as bad as Pop music, you need to go into the underground to find good stuff, because in my opinion rap went downhill when NWA split up. You need to get music by people such as Ugly Duckling, pharcyde, the beatnuts, dan the automator, Dj Krush, Dj shadow and roots manuva with the latter being british, to find the best in Hip-hop.
to Poprocksz, if you are looking for other bands likeradio head and such, check out the british scene. We have great bands, Muse, Elbow, the music, the beta band, and loads others, check out www.xfm.co.uk one time
But, overall, there is great music, its just over shadowed by the awful manufactured pop-crap...unfortunately. |

Pop music now is about the celebrity glamour and money - originality or the real passion of the music doesn't exist for it (these include N*Sync, Backstreet Boys, Etc.)
It seems once any artist gets their hands on a lot of cash their drive for making music they like dies fast.
And you can blaim MTV for that, they ruin every good band that started out, or take shitty bands and make them popular. |

Sometimes Rap-pop shit IS worse. They sing about money, big tittied ass shakin' ho's,
and throw in NIGGA and FUCK every 6 words.
I agree NWA is the shiznit when it comes to Rap and No one has anything on Dr. Dre(Puffy you hear me,you suck)or 2pac.No you'll say "well, They said the same things!" Maybe....
But it was also about the struggle and how
they're life was. Now it's not about their life or how it is anymore.....it's about being rich and a having sex with millions of girls.
yeah........stupid

Well, you only mentioned established radio bands as the kind of music you wanted more of, so you can understand my Best Buy assumption.
I don't care much for rock. I listen to and produce minimal and Detroit-influenced techno. 4000 units sold is a certified hit for a techno record |

Balistic- I used "Established" bands because then it would be a easy door opener to talking about the music industry and artists.
If I came out using bands like Skinny Puppy
or Operation Ivy or Kraftwork or Prima Donnas
or The Gossip....most people wouldn't get my point
if they never heard(not to say they haven't)
any of the music they wouldn't have anything to go by. So i used names you can't get AWAY from hearing. Good and Bad.....
I love techno more than rock....but this forum is about the decline and return of Rock....my second favorite style of music.....Techno would be a boring discussion cuz theres nothing wrong with it.....peace bro
Bjork is about as POP as Orange Juice.......
hahahahaa |

Why is it a bad thing that people don't write their own songs?
Atleast those popbands don't claim to be something they are not... Everybody knows why N'sync, shaggy or Britney do this stuff- to make money.
Instead of Oasis, offspring or whomever, who claims to be rebels against the middleclass/system etc.
You might not like like N'sync/britney, but it still takes alot of skill to produce the kind of music, millions of people will go out and buy, because they remember the hit(s)
How about the new tendency with virtual pop stars?...
Btw: There's still some pop I would define as quality. Eurythmics, Pet shop boys, INXS
and so on.
Just a thought from my side, personally I'm more into Autechre, mouse on mars and that suff.

Yeah "POP" Rock is dead. I find great music in punk garage bands and local bands in general. Especially the ones that don't give a fuck if they get big. Anyhoo, I find my music in todays underground scene. Hardcore and punk mostly for me. Here are some to listen to that most defintatly NOT pop or pop rock.
Primus
KMFDM
Atari Teenage Riot
Living Sacrifice
ZAO
Earth Crisis
P.O.D.
Mr. Oizo
Portishead
Fear Factory
and of course..
Weird Al!
Anywayz, I could list more, but check those out. |

Back to more important banter....
I'm not talking about Pop-Rock....I'm talking about POP......And to say The Eurithmics or
INXS are POP is to be true.......it's good pop...
not shallow lame ass shit.......
Why is it bad to not write yer own shit?
Maybe it's not bad, but then all you are is a fuckin tool......with no musical spirit or
passion.......just showmanship...........
whitch just makes you.....AN ACTOR.
I could write better songs anyday......

Actually I think Tool, (and whatever your views on their music is it doesn't really matter here) has done the best job of any major label band in keeping the indy mentality within the music they make.
I mean, they sold 510,00 copies of Lateralus in the first week it was out-
Promotions done- one Spin Magazine article.
Destiny's Child - sold 500,000 unich's the first week their new record was out.
Promotions done - way too much crap to list. In stores, out stores, full page ads, free concerts.... ugh shoot em now'
What really torques me is when a really good underground band does like 5 friggin great albums, then on the 6th it's like suddenly the world finds out about them, they get signed to a major, and from that point on it's utter complete crappola.
Dr Bang- Do you have every "Cribs" show recorded? LOL... When I see those shots my first thought is to start humming the thong song music, then replace "thong" with "leased" cause that's all that shit is. Leased. Half the value back when they have'ta sell it to move back to da' hood y'know. It's actually really sad to see these people just being utterly stupid. They make millions, they buy the " bling bling" or whatever that shit is to be all hip as fuck. Then suddenly no one buys their crap anymore, and their only investment is a bunch a crap jewelry that says "Gangsta 4 Life" all over it. You think they actually own those cars, that house... HA! It's the record companies. Their next album goes down the crapper, record company man gonna get his money back somehow... who got the big house now Dawg. Idiots. Every friggin one of em'. The only thing that is worse is the suburban white trash shitheads who listen to that crap. |

The fact that a band is successful doesn't necessarily make it a bad. The assumption that everything mainstream is bad is just as ignorant as only listening to what MTV serves. There are some very shitty underground bands too. The fact that Radiohead, Tool, NIN, Bjork and some other bands mentioned above are somewhat successful just gives me hope that there is some intelligence out there.
The fact that Britney Spears outsells Tool 10 to 1 (or more) kinda makes sense because every teen generation needs their pop heroes and every generation has them. They are manufactured stars marketed to a select audience. It's a sure shot.
The fact that Limp Bizkit or some of these other "nu metal" acts outsell Tool and even more NIN 5 to 1 is what's scary, because that audience is old enough to decide for themselves, but I guess they choose not to. It's scary that there are millions of people with their red caps backwards yelling out "show me your tits". Just look at the disaster that last Woodstock was, that mentality is disturbing and mind numbing.
If you want some really audience alienating music listen to the Melvins and anything recent that Mike Patton does.
Just a note: New Air album is great. I didn't care for their older stuff, but this new one just rocks.
Also the cribs show at Redman's house is awesome. He actually lives in an apartment that makes my place look like a palace.

For one-Impaler-no I don't want copies of Radiohead, NIN, and Tool-What I meant was that we needmore bands who have Originality-
thanx-also-POP is a product of what is new and cool? More like what they TELL you is cool-I usually shop at Thrift-stores cuz all
you can get at ANY store is khakis, cargo pants and jeans that look ridiculus---Sad ass
hawain shirts and 150 dollars peice of shit shoes-oh well-i'm not bitter-I'd hate that shit even if it wasn't "COOL"-
Peaches-hahaha-I'm 21 actually and I was using the "30 year old fat man" thing as
an actual referance to the(FORMER)manager of BSB and N*SYNC-Have you seen that guy?
Please don't shoot yerself......
Balistic-Actualy I live in one of the most underground rock scenes-Olympia-so you can't tell me
to "Get my ass out of Best Buy" cuz we don't have one......All the bands here rock the
old way......from the heart. And they live in houses with boards on the windows were we all party.....come visit sometime if yer into Sleater-Kinney or The Need-otherwise, peace
Dr.Bang-in case you didn't notice, Rap and R&B nver left and is going strong-In my opinion we all should have Marvin Gaye-not
Sisqo-And about Moby-he put alot of his songs in commercials-for money-but he gave the money to Enviromental causes-the only thing I don't like about his music is the repetitive sampling-I still listen to it alot though....
Well if there is a reason behind POP- i can't find a good one-
Look at Britaney Spears-She started out all
"INNOCENT"(i guess) and now she's flaunting her self more and more
while still proclaiming she's a "GOOD CHRISTIAN"
and a virgin-If I had a little girl I would not want her to have that kind of role model-
all we need is more women running around thinking all they're good for is to look good-
All POP is-is fashion that isn't fashionable
p.s. Limp Bizkit bought they're way onto Mtv and the radio
sorry I went off-Thanx all of you for yer words-
