Above is the one I like
This is the Bling Bling one
Which treatment do you like better?
These are for a Newyears flyer. I'm pretty sure that we are going with the top simple one. What do you think? I'm more of a designer than an illustrator, sorry about that. This is all Illustrator and PS 5.5 |

Greetings from Toronto!
I got that old Limelight promotional image of yours in a ticket form! Was in my Ryerson newbie bag.
I like the bottom one more for some reason. |

I completly agree with you. Tho top design is the best. But I think it is hard to read the text, so my sugetion is that you shold darken the ligth green behind the text "LIGHT" and inside the text "LIME". Just a thought...
Excuse my english...i sux...

I would go with the top image, but my eyes go to the 2002 first also.
I think if the 2002 was 2d it would look better. Just my opinion, i'm not god or anything. |

Heyoo. I was at the LIMELITE about a month ago. We got there too early and no one was there, but that meant no line at the bar. So we got drunk, more people came and it ended up bein a pretty good night.
I like the upgraded second one, btw. |

Ayhay, one more hello from TO. Is it my imagination, or has Limelight gotten a little watered down these days...
Anyway, about the image, you might wanna make that text more legible. Best of luck with it. |

Hey dude.
I like the second one, but the black LimeLight logo from the first one...it's stronger.
...ugh...the LimeLight. |

I like it, but my eyes look at the 2002 before the LimeLight logo. |

what does it say on the other side? post it if you got it.
i like the first one - but it's a tad bla for new years. good work/design, but ny party invites should be outta control - ny parties never live up to reputation though, so maybe bla will downplay hype and people will be stoked when they get there. or i'm totally wrong.
you going to this party? will this party get it on? what do you want from it? design what you'd want it to be is my opinion. i'd be curious, but not all flamed up about it the way it is now.
just my 2scents.

I'd go with the "Bling Bling" for a new years bash.
It just has a way of sayin'....
....freezer burned platinum on my pinky, squattin' twenty inch twinkies.....
....LOOK AT ME!

I would do the bling bling with a different color scheme. Maybe blue or something.

Wow I can't believe it!
I've broken into the two digit world of responses! My client has picked the top one. Thanks for all of you responses;
InsaneSpaghetti : Cool, how did that Limelight promo image print? I never saw one. What are you taking at Ryerson?
asmodie : I am going to play with making the levels of contrast in the LL logo as per your suggestion, thanks
stevethomas:I rarely go to ther Limelight but when I do I alway seem to get totally trashed as well
Shaded: I generally hate "Club Land" I don't really go down there anymore. I'm working on the legibility, thanks!
Fallen: ..ugh...the LimeLight indeed
Akolyte : I think that's ok? isn't it?
kombosagi : thanks
bld: I'll give it a try in 2d, thanks
wus : thanks for your comments. I agree that it is pretty plain in comparison to many New Years flyers but I am hoping that that will make it stand out...I'm working on the back right now...There has been text additions made to the front that is going to throw everything off (really cheesey copy, you'll see). I will not be going to this party I just do artwork for them. I did a new years in club land years ago and I'll never do it again.
Malachi Maloney : thanks...????
MoleculeMan: the client has pick the top one thanks (I kinda like chrome alittle too much) Bling Bling yo! |

Here's where it at so far. I liked it way better as a square. I did not write the copy.
Shaded, great idea...when and where? I have almost no time due to 3 magazines on the go, a flyer and a CD not to metion Christmas shopping and all that Christmas stuff. Maybe in the new year? I know Roundeye would be into that as well. Lets figure it out!

You're welcome???
Kind of obscure music amongst most artists I guess.....It was a quote from an E-40 song. About "Bling Blingin'" no less.

another example of clients ruining everything. |

I think for a night cub, a minimalistic approach would be better, because you want to seperate this from all those other clubs with thier ridiculous overdone flyers. Maybe lose some of the photoshoppy transparency/gradient effects you got going there, they dont give the club its own identity, they just tell people the club hired someone that knows photoshop, not a designer. I'm mainly thinking ahead for when you do the CD package, and if it has these tiled backgrounds and what not, it would just be a shame, you can do something so fantastic and forward thinking with this.
I think the type on this flyer is very necessary, although making it all bold, and justifying / centering respectively, is not really the answer.
What am I saying, the client probably loves this anyway (and maybe they're not even paying you enough to care), but, sometimes its nice to create a good portfolio piece for yourself, they might be really impressed if you just take their current design ID and give it a new edge. Just my opinion though, I think this is fine, I just think you could do something much different. These bar/club flyers are all starting to look the same to me (not to come down on you, becasue I think you've probably noticed this too, just by living in toronto). |

thanks everyone for their suggestions and comments...The whole thing ended up being a mad scamble at the end...You can never get these thing looking the way you want them but oh well easy money (overall) and my client is happy...
I'll put it in my OK for what it is pile
thanks again everyone who commented! I'm working on an illustration right now...you guys are going to slaughter me (nice lighting loser?! lol) |
