I think you should look at the poses of the creatures again, they seem a bit unnatural, except the first picture. Otherwise well done! |

Lukias - Cheers bro, glad u liked em. Yeah that first one was a sketch from my new book I posted a while ago.
Hey I got some stuff to send over for u, probably tomorrow when I get 'em sorted. we need to start our sketchbook jamming again soon.
Solar C - Thanks, not sure what u mean about unnatural. Remember, they are creatures, what is natural to them? Their poses fit the way I envison their characteristics and how they will move around etc.

Nice,
I like the variety.
IMHO the poses look weird only in that they appear to be moving independant of gravity (ex: several are tilted to the side but seem to be lacking any appendage providing support to their position)
Also the "demon walking" one looks strange since the stance is so wide and narrow (directly front and back). Someone would normally fall over with a stance this extrapolated.
It has an edgy feel to it because of this though. Quirky. Feels almost comic. I keep waiting for him to shift his weight back so he won't fall over.
*He's going over! No he's not! Yes he is!*
My two cents
Don't misunderstand tho'. I'm loving it. This is yet another piece of high-caliber work on this board... (I'm a newbie here so I'm still enjoying the quality work 'round here)

woo spooky.. (means hell good!)
i really like the second one.
perhaps wisperman has some points there, but personally i see the stance as in dynamic (where the monster looks as though it was grabbing/strucking with his gruesome might) thus his stance is understandable.
that's just my interpretation anyway and as in most cases, i could be wrong. |

Thanks for the comments wisperman and sandhu =)
Don't want to sound like I can't take crits with these cause I can, actually I thrive on them heh. But I honestly don't have a problem with the poses, that second ones leg is probably kinda dodgy but he is in a movement as sandhu notices, he's not standing still like that, or obviously he wouldn't be stable on the ground. He's not overly dynamic in the movement because he's big and heavy making him more slow and sluggish. Maybe it could of been more dynamic than it is tho. Thanks for the input, even tho I didn't agree, I still like to hear peoples crits and opinions.

I love the top pic. It makes me all tingly inside. Great tits.
*right click-save as*...hope you don't mind...heh heh...
Do we get a closer look too? I promise I won't touch the canvas...
I like all the designs, especially the very, very bottom horizontal drawing. It looks like a side view, that one.
I would like to see all of these developed some more but they're still damn cool as they are.

Dude I just read your other post.
happy b-day

Lazy Dead - haha thanks man, appreciate it. I'll put up a zoom in, it is pretty rough from close tho. I have some other development work on these guys lying around. Some sketches I haven't got around to scanning, and some earlier stuff you probably haven't seen, I'll have a rummage and put something here in a bit.
Dryfire and Cyberlink - Thanks guys! =D
son of cos - heh, long as you feel you have some purpose in life, then you keep it up biatch

Cos, by unnatural i mean that poses don't have a clear direction and balance. These are things which often looks best when exaggerated in my opinion.
For an example, if in your picture you decide to put a character opening a door, to gain a natural look you need to draw the whole character going into that direction (where the doors opening mechanism is) it's insufficient to just lift characters other hand up into the direction. When you have a clear direction for a character it gives a sense of action to the picture and brings character more to life.
Balance is important, because you don't want your characters look like they are falling over. To be precise they don't actually, without a balance and direction, even look like they would be falling naturally, the pose would just look unnatural.
Hope I made any sense. Actually this would be an interesting thread to talk about more. What techniques people use to get characters into poses they want. Atleast I find this often hard and very time consuming. What I use myself is drawing arrows where kinetic forces are pointing. |

cos,
I am just REALLY impressed by your style. You definitely have quite a lot of natural talent. You can do rare things with the people/creatures you draw because you have an obvious grasp on human anatomy. I am surprised how seldom I see this in art. It is a rare and important quality. I am surprised about something else though.
When I was your age I would have given my right arm for input by someone who could see me work's short-comings and point them out to me. I would always be knowledgable of my skill but I realized that I always had "blind-spots" which were area's of improvement I needed to work on but could not see.
So far I've seen several of the posters attempt to help you see an area of possible improvement in your work. If I had been in your position I would have thanked them for their help and mentally filed the information under "possible problems I may have which I cannot yet see".
I am saddened to see these people's attempts to help getting brushed off as "in error" or "irrelevant". You may find that it takes you quite some time to make any improvement in weak points you do not wish to recognize are there.
(Granted these are sketches, and quick idea captures, yet the comments are still valid as many of the aspects seem to permiate your work. You might want to heed their attempts to help here and apply the wisdom in your other work)
Thanks for you time

wiseprman -
thanks for your compliments, I do appreciate them..
I'm always thankful when people offer their crits, opinion, advice on my work. Read my second reply on this thread.
'Thanks for the input, even tho I didn't agree, I still like to hear peoples crits and opinions. '
So when you say if you were in my position, you would of thanked the people, are you saying that I didn't?
You have to keep in mind I do have my own opinions also, If I do not agree with what's being said, should I just say I do to please the person who said it? I'm sorry if someone gets offended I have my own thoughts, there's not much I can do about that. I am very critical of my work, and always looking for ways to make things better. If you take a look at my work from a year or so ago will see a progression, this is because I am always ready and willing to take on crits to better my work, and not close minded to them as you are suggesting. I think you've just taken my replies in the wrong way..
[edit]
wisper -
It's very possible I'm just blind to them, If you do see something very wrong with them could you (or solar C) edit the pics to show me what you mean? I would appreciate it.
Thanks
