Did this one a while ago but thought I'd post for c & c anyway, reference used for the lighting on the face.

I hope you don't mind me jumping right in Cos.
I like the face and who wouldn't love that hair?
but.....
...the shoulder looks wierd. It's edge meets the edge of the pic giving the perception of a never-ending shoulder and it's large colorless area vies for attention with the face. It also feels like all the major lines point down towards the shoulder thus leading the eye off the page again.
If it were darker or something... something that doesn't attract the eye down there or at least stop it from falling off the page it would work better I think.
Cool pic. Maybe fix that and it would really kick ass.
I just noticed a bright red patch behind his right ear that stretches down to the strap on his back. It seems kind of dominant in an area that seems to need to be softer.
Hope this is what you were looking for.
BTW I like the gun how it is. Simple and effective...with a frickin cool laser. |

Te face is absolutely awesome. He has a bad-boy attitude look on his face. I LOVE his personality illustrated...BUT If you did the same ammount of detail to the entire painting it would finish it off and be really nice.
Im really liking this nice work.
Cos can I please colour one of your drawings? Its Sheldon we used to talk via e-mail a long time ago :P
I would credit you where necessary.

Thanks for the comments ppl, wanted to see if this was worth trying to save or just bin it. Seems the few ppl that replied liked it so I'll touch it up, few more opinions wouldn't hurt =)
Metz - yeah, gun is a little plain..
lazydead- thanks howard, I do see what you're saying with the shoulder. Probably since it's such a flat area it seems like that.. I'l have a go at adding some darker shades, to show it's going more round.
Soulfuct - Hey Sheldon, yeah I remember, been a while man, hope u been cool =) I don't really like working every square inch of the canvas with the same ammount of detail, just ends up stiffening up too much. Prefer to make the main areas the most the worked, so that's what keeps your focus. Loosening up as it works out. That's just how I prefer it. There are alot of artists that paint like that, frazetta, kent williams, justin sweet.. Do need to work on the style more tho, so it has it's looseness but still looks finished. Maybe I left the hand a little too plain.
Yeah sure you can colour my sketches if u like, haven't got around to sorting my webpage out since crit depth went down. I posted a bunch of sketchbook threads last month, quite a few stuff on that. If theres anything specific you wanted just mail me and ask, I'll send u it over. If you plan to show it anywhere just credit me the drawing, s'all good
Cheers

Really great atmosphere and mood with this one bro. Face is excellently done and I really like the way he is lit by the back light. Maybe could use a bit more detail, such as folds and creases on his suit but otherwise you did a really excellent job! |

Yeah, it's a very atmospheric painting. I like the roughness of the strokes, the expression on his face with only one eye visible and the red back-lighting.
The texture on the guns looks very cool, but I reckon it would look great with more mechanical detail, perhaps if it had a mixture of different details from today handguns? Otherwise, it looks robust, hi-tech and strictly functional as it is. |
