oscar, maybe it was the spooge himself! craig 'bj blascowitz' mullins, it could happen.
"docfunkalot- I taught once, it was fun. But that was just those cubes, I don't know anything else well enough that I would feel qualified teaching."
craig, you should teach at artcenter! im trying to get in and it would totally be teh win if you taught there ^_^.
i am glad you take the time to reply to everyone's comments.
and im glad to hear you are doing stuff away from the computer. obviously there is nothing wrong with photoshop, seeing how ya make a good living with it, but i'm sure the artist's artist inside of you enjoys the richness of the paintbrush over photoshops hopelessly mundane circular 'brush'(hah!).
rambling...
and teach at ac dangit! |

Oh my.. that full rez cutout is outstanding. I've manage to forget just how good you are at tightening up images as well as simplifying them. You're very impressive.
Side note, sorry for all the kiss-assing, but it is genuine. |

Craig... just relax and take it easy
maybe it's not a best painting you ever did
but it really has an atmosphere! What we're
looking for in art? Perfect forms, colors, values etc?
Yeah, that's important but something are missing - the atmosphere, mood and emotions. The good side of your art is when I look at it I always get inspired, get motivated TO DO something... no matter if it's a half-finished sketch or completed painting.
What else do you need ah?

PS: If you crop 1/2 of the pict and only leave that guy with flamethrower hell... it will be a killer thing. |

I think not C. If Spooge looked like that, he'd be starring in amateur action movies ![](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |

I remember spooge posting a number of scans that went over the basics of composition awhile ago. I think I may still have them saved somewhere around here ... nope, don't sorry. But from the design classes I've been taking lately you would be better off getting a book, several actually, on the subject and going through that a number of times. I would say save colour theory for after design. Why complicate things needlessly after all? By the way about technique, here at less my design teacher has emphasized time and again that a crappy design excuted flawlessly is still a crappy design. Cliche but effective. He actually has had us work with a variety of mediums to break us out of our comfort zones so that we can concentrate more on our designs. Hmm ... I'm meandering, sorry. |

It's a really nice piece. My eyes kinda fell to the ground, and I had to search for them. I don't understand how you achieve such texture on the walls. Are you just repeatedly doing strokes across the walls Until you get something or do you have special custom brushes? Just wondering, I really admire your textures. |

Superbug asks a really interesting question there. How do you acchieve texture in painting ? I mean of course you could apply some sort of photo texture but that would defy the point I think.....
As to the piece, you're kinda right about the painting. It really looks kinda dry. (or, let's say, less alive than your usual stuff) Still, the skill demonstrated is amazing. Some of the sketches are really great. I especially like the one with the huge shadow cast on the castle wall. Very original concept. |

Hey, they did use it for the main install screen. Looks great too. Some friends at work were installing wolfy as I was telling them to come here and check out the work.
There were other images too, not sure if "meatsack" did them tho, I didn't get a good look. |

One thing that just occured to me (don't know if it has been said before, didn't have time to read through all posts) is that the light illuminating the main character would likely make him cast a huge shadow directly into the field of vision of the German soldiers.
But you're likely aware of that, sketch #7 shows the same composition with no direct light onto the character, so you likely just added that light because the character vanished in the dark too much (though that might have been an interesting composition as well !). |

Ah yes, Fred, sorry my memory is a complete failure, as always! I should try and get ahold of the book sometime, design and composition are fascinating subjects in my opinion. |

i think the problem with this picture is that it lacks originality... i'm not saying its ripped off anything, or that it isn't a great picture, its just the setup that is unoriginal- the hero hading around a corner with a gun, while a bad guy walks is looking for him. it seems like this formula is used all too often in game artwork- its allmost getting as common as the "hero standing on pile of dead bodies, shooting at monsters below him" picture.
everything else in this picture is great, i really like the lighting in it, the warm colors are awesome. i think my favorit part is the water on the ground. love it.
