I like how the lighting in the background sort of created a halo around her head, they match very well. |

its very uninteresting and typical of paintings done with a wacom. nothing sets this apart from everything else |

you might have some points sometimes, but be a little less abrasive. |

ancient skeleton pirate: I realize the point of people posting in these forums is to get feedback, but next try to make some suggestions as to what he could do to improve the image. Unless you actually give some advise as how he could make it better, your really just wasting your time.
I would love to hear some ideas from you on how he could improve the image. |

hmm... I'm not sure whether mr. skeleton pirate there inspired this thought to me but
the portrait looks somewhat typical. not typical the wacom way but around-the-corner-art&art supply-shop typical. the hues, shading and the overall look like this looks like most of the paintings they sell in those places. I'm not very sure about this but it just crossed my mind... |

Well... didn't mean for this to be a controversial image -- just the opposite. It's meant to be a rough layout sketch for a standard portrait that will hopefully be exceptionally well done. That's to be seen, of coures. So... for those who think this is nothing remarkable, you got it right... it is just a standard traditional approach to a portrait. |

kind of reminds me of a quote that went a little like this
" if it LOOKS like someone's acting then they're not doing it right"
I like your stuff Fleabrain, i always have i think that they tend to show the personality of the person behind the image quite well. As you yourself said its meant to look like a portrait you might get at a corner store. Its a portrait of a normal looking person in a normal setting, no more no less and i think it does it wonderfully. Keep it up.
Dave
PS.saw the finished piece on your web site...looks very nice..the face came along well. Kind of looks like a real person standing in front of a pre-painted backdrop tho', not sure if that was deliberate? |
