hey whats up there !
Well my first assessment of your pieces would be that you should lay in a dark background to make your image stand out more...and you should use more variety of tone. You seem to be using a very light skin tone there, and i understand that its hard, but you should have a contrast of dark and light to lay out your portraits. I'm assuming you used a photo ref for the top one, so you should look more carefully at the colours in the photo. Its hard looking at your reference from a distance, so bring it close to your eye so you can see all the values that make up the different areas of the face. Not only that, but take a look at some of the great artists on the forum such as worthless-meat-sack, and see what he has written about shadow and light. You should have a light source strongly indicated in any images that you do. Also, try drawing something from life. I know this is hard, but if at all possible, setup your own still life arrangment of objects and paint from them. You'd have to set it up on your computer desk, but that can help.

And if you want to practice portraits, use a mirror on your desk and make facial expressions, you can learn alot doing an achromatic or monochromatic painting of something as well. It's great for starters !

yea, thats what everyone is telling meh :/
when i started i thought it was going well but by the time i noticed the problem i didnt really wanna spend the time to go back and make it darker on the shadows and such...
maybe next time...
