I get up, blow warm breath into my cold hands. Grab my sketch book, draw a lot. Ink some of the ones I like, noodle out others and what not. Go online look at spooge's work.. scream. Wish I had a wacom and go draw like a ravenous monkey to try and burn off the inspiration. Then scream some more.
You inspire me. Nough said.. not many do.
I wanna see you do some oil work.
Ass kicken lighting.

I thought Graig was insane before, but now I _know_ he is.

Glad people like them! had no idea what people would think. "what? more scribbles?" If I had not been doing all those forum sketches over the last year, I could not have done these at all.
Tarball, My site will be up, it is how I eat, so I will find a way to keep it up.
Bandwidth is ~1GB/day. I have had 3 other arrangements with different people regarding free hosting, and none seem to work out. Bandwidth costs money, no way around that. I was hosting my larger files on a machine at a university, but the machine was up and down constantly.
Strangely enough, my cable modem seems to be working well. I will keep your kind offer, though.
Sumaleth- Yes, I like them better than FF too. The bigger the project, the more neurotic the process, and the more life is bred out of things. It is amazing when really good work comes out of committee. Ads? Ahhh! For what? Mutual funds, kitty litter and incontinence products. I can see it now I am wondering, though, the traffic is not that high, but the size of the files makes the bandwidth deceptively large.
Thanks Dixter. I used a wide lens on the office, and a long one of the mountains. Strange effect.
Vesuvius, I have heard that console=suckage. I don't know. Hope not. I did not include the heat distortion. I did paint it in, and then took it out. Cheap trick, lens flare town. As Bond being big, OMG you are so right. How embarrassing! Flying a little too fast, I was.
Jezebel- thanks, it is interesting to hear what you like best. I can hear the footsteps echoing...
Anthony J In a few I used a 3-d program to lay out a grid and maybe a few blocks. I like being able to design the shapes that way. But I have in my mind a good idea of what I am after, so the model is seldom more than 3-4 blocks or cylinders. Accurate perspective and scale (like Mr. bond in computer room) are a must for this kind of work
The originals are from 2000 to 5000 pix wide.
Yes, I start with as close to the average tone as I can.
I have two 20 inchers, palettes on one, image on the other.
I am not sure of the meaning of interpretive versus technical. I did put myself through school doing architectural renderings. That is pretty technical.
Quasar, Try glazing with a pressure sensitive pen, or if you have a mouse, painting at low opacity. This can quickly build up a nice complexity of color.
S4Sb I cannot discuss price, that is my agents realm, and I get in mucho trouble if I discuss it.
I worked with a fellow named Jay Riddle on this, and he and I would discuss a few ideas, but then he would say "do whatever you want." So your description is somewhat accurate. "We need to design how Bond gets to the alpine base, probably a jumpjet pad built on the side of the mountain. It should have some guard towers and a path going into the mountain from the pad." Bout like that. Some like the office, were no more instructed than "we need to see what the bad guys office looks like"
Gix- haha! exactly my thought. I really wonder if you will be able to see any influence of these in the game. If anyone can get screenshots...
Vesuvius/dave- by a new website do you mean one that does not look like it was laid out by drunken monkeys? Probably not. I am thinking of just putting the images in a folder on FTP with a downloadable index file. How that for NU-design?
The problem is bandwidth. When I put up those FF things about 5-10 gigs a day was going out. Of course, I can make the images half the size.
As I said, the cable modem is as good a solution as any at this point, but I wonder when the cable people are going to burst in through the ceiling with guns and gasmasks.
Docfunkalot, I generally set the brush to opacity mapped to pressure, size constant.
Anthony, funky yeah, my design have always been a little... Different. Not sure why. Seems straightforward to me...
MoleculeMan- thanks, that is a very high compliment!
Imhotep thanks! It is the matte artist bubbling to the surface
Hi Ed, are you freelancing now? You were PC Dood, if I remember. Hows it run rally big PS files? Spooge Demon could not paint a wall
Shaded- you are getting it. Texture is OK, but it has to be controlled and of low enough contrast that it does not interfere wit the reading of form. See the fish on the platform? Hehe
Gambit-Thanks! Those are good links. My front end is handled by pair networks, and I am happy with them. Looks like I need the 99 buck deal at m6. Oy. What was that about retiring?
JayceeL thanks, but don't quit! Play golf, you will find renewed interest in indoor activities. Some images I did in an evening, some went through changes. As far as reference, I did not use any, as far as I think you are asking. I did find a photo of a harrier, but not from that angle. So I use it for form and construction ref, but not to copy shapes of the photograph.
JR thanks!
Briareos, My crappy mac crashes a lot. Crufty beast. Should work now.
Anthony, thanks, but that's a little rich
High five- thanks!
Edible snowman- prints are coming up on my to do list.
Dr Squirley- Other than the arch rendering, I had perspective class with a rather pointy headed (in a good way) fellow.
Elf, we need you to post more. I am curious to see the game. But I am not dropping 300 bucks to see nothing. That office will be 4 polys with a light bulb on the ceiling. I can feel it
Icannnon thanks! |

Craig talk to these people they have dedicated servers for about 100.00/mo with 50 gigs of transfer.. if your hitting 1gig/day then that should be plenty of bandwidth with a little growth even ..i know 100/mo is kinda step but like you said this is how people see your work for the most part ..

give em a call and see what they say might be worth it |

Two ideas:
One, for $30/year, you can have unlimited images and bandwidth at www.fotki.com. I currently have almost 200MB of jpgs up there.
Two, if you have a dynamic IP, you can get dns redirection for FREE with www.dns2go.com.

oooh, goody goody. Awesome stuff. I agree with sumaleth, these kind of appeals even more to me than the FF mattes. Less refined, more "impulsive/alive" |

Craig - Absolutely awesome. And the Harrier is my favorite aircraft! Fantastic. I feel like Homer Simpson when he sees a duff beer comercial!
oh and the underwater scene resembles a certain set of
plankton eating, glowing toilet bowls!!

Hey there Craig - I see you have moved afar. How do you like living in Hawaii? Anyway, yeah doing freelance work - got tired of working 9-5, and working side by side with peeps who can't tell from art to real art. Heheh, no problem........ Anyway, I really dug your FF paintings even though its decision by commitee. And the Bond stuff I'm sure are welcome relief as the guys over at EA gave you well-founded freedom. Keep it up "G". Great paintings, Craig. Wonderful atmosphere on all of these. I love the warmth of the sunlight in your outdoor paintings. Especially in the Office.
One thing I want to mention is that if I hadn't read the name I never would have guessed that the last painting was supposed to be underwater. |

fantastic. simply amazing. more praise? sure: i love the way you let the viewer's eye fill in the details with your textures. i need to try the treetop texture thing myself sometimes
anyway, one crit i have, it's about the GOOD MORNING!!! picture ("where the evil is conceived" - the one you posted at lumental as a sample). there's some rays in the lower right corner, and i can't really fit them together with the rays that come through the ceiling... makes it look like the sun is approximately 100 meters from the base. still, the atmosphere in those pics is Un Be Lievable. Thanks for sharing! |

Craig, I just signed up with http://www.readyhosting.com/
$100/year for 500mb of webspace. No transfer limit.
It came highly recommended from some people here at work.

Oh yeah, these Bond concepts rock!
You nailed the atmospheric perspective in all of these.
I really like the mountain-top base. Good design. Even better lighting.

No bandwidth limit? That seems REALLY unbelievable. I'm guessing that if this really is true that they aren't basing this on the assumption that most of their customers will not be seeing anything near 1gb/day of data transfer.
I've always been really happy with Hostway (www.hostway.com), they have been incredibly reliable in many, many instances for me and clients. Check 'em out if you find the time. |

Just to point that out - you actually design the whole scenery with simple 3D objects and then you start to overpaint it with pure painting 1337nez, is that correct?
(As you might tell from the way I described your painting technique: I luv your pic.) |

Mr. Mullins, first of all I just wanted to say I'm a huge fan and love your style. Now, I'm sure I'm not qualified to critique your work, but something struck me as odd in your pic. Am I wrong or is that Harrier way too big? With no people around or anything recognizeable near the landing pad, it's hard to get an idea of the scale of the jet to it's surroundings. Can you see what I'm saying or do I need to take a closer look.
Just slap me upside my head if I'm wrong. |

Strange fate- thanks!
jezebel, I used to play a LOT.
wigin, I am working on it
Quasar, I feel actually paying for the bandwidth is my eventual fate. 100/ month? ugh.
strata, I remember asking a software company for a copy of their wares, and I would do some stuff that would end up in movies, and that would be very promotional for them. They replied "you gotta be kidding, you are exactly the kind of guy we want to sell this thing to!"
The PlaYDoH Very interesting. So I could link my larger Jpgs to fokti? I am sure they would catch up with me. The free DNS is a great tip, thanks!
Wayfinder- you might be right about the perspective on the light rays. It was all just eyeballed
Phil, I wrote readyhosting, they ran away screaming, told me directly, find someplace else
Yes, cornpops, there is no such thing as unlimited bandwidth. If your competition lies, so do you. Hostaway is a hosting company? All I could find were name registration services.
Hi Joachim, glad you like them!
Ripelly, thanks!
Alex, you are too generous...
Shiro_tengu can't get enough of that duff!
Ed- good to hear you are out from under the Boot. Everyone check out eds stuff, you will be glad you did!
Hi Bishop_six, you have been scarce! Hmm that is the first time I have heard that about the underwater one. Maybe a little blue shift and some diffusion?
Masta flat, yes, that is it roughly. Not all of them were done that way.
digitalmar- umm. uhh the harrier is, uh, flying towards you... yeah, that's it. Yes, it does look gigantic. never saw that before, thanks for pointing it out! |

I've been scarce? Yeah, I guess I have been. Unfortunately, I haven't had a lot of time to paint lately. I must do that more. I must be more active!
Anyway, I don't know how to make it look more underwatery. Wish I did, but I don't. |

Spooge: about how long did you spend on each of these Bond concepts?
--
Thinking more about the bandwidth issue, maybe if each of us that have a linkable web site (not tripod, geocities etc) could host 3 or 4 of the older pics and spread the bandwidth around that way? I'd be happy to take a few.

Very beautiful, I don't think I'm looking forward to finding out how long you spent on them though, it'll just be depressing...

Heya Craig,
Yep, they're a hosting company as well. They've actually won a lot of awards. I consider them the best there is, but people certainly have differing opinions when it comes to something like this. One of their best qualities is that EXTRAORDINARY customer care. If you e-mail them with a problem, it'll be fixed within minutes and they'll have e-mailed you back. It really is quite amazing, I've dealt with upwards of 30 hosting companies, and Hostway is by far the best in my opinion. Here is a link to the package I would assume most suits your needs:
http://www.hostway.com/webhosting/platinumplus.htm
Good luck, goodbrush.com is too sacred to fall at the hands of money-hungry corporate slime. |

Phil: There is not such thing as unlimited transfer service, or unmetered transfer. If there was Yahoo would be hosted by your host. Unfortunetly Bandwidth costs, and costs big money.
Craig: You have mail! (in like 5 min of this post Let me see what I can do to help you out. ([email protected])
Cheers
