Browsed some old WW II photos on the net and found this.
I decided to paint it and here's the fruit of 4 hours of work:
I'm pretty sure I'm not going to work on this piece any longer, but throw in some C&C by all means. |

there seems to be 2 horizon lines. the cabbins should leading in toward the base of the mountains, shouldn't they? also, i think the ground and cabbins are a little too clean. otherwise, it's quite nice. great atmosphericness. |

Thanks for the comments, people.
The funny horizon line in the photo puzzled me first but I decided to use the same composition in every case. It look liked to me the camp was set in a slope but I guess the gray area between the horizon and mountain bottom is uphill. Or something. |

Maybe you should try to eliminate that secound line.
It does look a bit strange. |

Yeah, I'm guessing that the second "horizon" is actually the top of the alluvial fan at the base of the mountains.
You might cheat a bit and make it less straight . . . try to indicate that it follows the profile of the mountain range.
Also, the sky color strikes me as being a bit off . . . it looks a little too close to the purple side of blue, where it should be more to the green side. Just a subtle shift, mind you.
Still a nice piece. I like it. |
