Lets see now. Battlefield Earth, X-Men, Titan AE.

I never liked X-Men, so when I first heard about the movie I dident think a whole lot about it. But the new trailer has me kind of interested.

Battlefield Earth just looked silly at first. (John Travolta as an alien, Give me a break) But it just might be worth seeing even though I think it wont be that good.

And Titan AE. When I first saw the teaser for it I thought "forget it, this looks retarded". Now that I know its a Bluth animated film. I am rather excited to see this movie as soon as it comes out.

So, I am least excited about Battlefield Earth, kind of interested in X-Men, and realy looking forward to Titan AE.

Did I forget any other films?

BTW, Do NOT see Final Destination. And I would'nt recommend Rules of Engagment either.
But I will tell all of you to go to the video store and DO rent Three Knigs (great movie).

I agree, X-men looks like it's gonna kick some ass... And I also said the same thing about Titan A.E. But now that you've informed me about it's animated staus, perhaps, it might be cool. "Secret of Nimh in Space"? Maybe not...

Battlefield Earth is just a means for those damned Scientologists to spread their propaganda. It's originally from a book written by L. Ron Hubbard, the man who also wrote Dianetics, which was the beginning of the cult we now know as Scientology. Let me beg all of you reasonable people out there NOT to go see Battfield earth, it will only promote the growth of an already large cult.

Other movie recommendations: Rushmore Criterion Collection, Seven Samurai, Blade Runner, Fight Club, 400 Blows (this is not a porno movie), Citizen Kane, The Last Temptation of Christ, The Godfather....

Hell I could just go on and on....

hehehe for people who like Violence and BL00D, Rules of Engagement is cool (also lawyer-type movie, but u get to see lots of guns and wounds)

i would really recommend MATRIX

I hereby pronounce this the 'favourite-movie-thread'.

Movies you simply cant afford to miss :

Leon ('the professional') - great movie with the emphasis on character development and psychology rather than action. Though from american soil, a typically french movie.

Ransom - More drama than action, with a brilliant twist in the plot, two twists actually, and of an incredible suspense.

The usual suspects - Sheer brilliance, period.

The Lost highway - Paranoid, claustrophobic roadmovie that feels like a bad trip. Dont watch when intoxicated. Probably the best fitting soundtrack ever, as well.

Killing Zoe - nihilistic, violent and extremely down-to-earth. It will definitely leave a permanent impression.

Reservoir Dogs - Need i say more?

Platoon - if you haven't seen this one, you haven't truly lived. The perfect blend of violence and emotion.

The Shining - "Here's Johnny!" Kubrick shows off his 1337 Sk!11z and builds up suspense only to deflate it like a balloon.

The Crow - Dark, eerie, violent and romantic. For the inner goth in us all.

Das Boot - some movies are simply more than just a movie. This is one of them.

Se7en - Very atmospheric and moody, too bad the ending is so weak and uninspired. Still a good movie.

burnt by the sun - international film about the life of a family under stalin's rule. AMAZING!!! really beautiful visuals too, for the artsy movie viewer.

It looks retarded. They put all the characters in black leather costumes, it totally killed the whole "ora" of X-Men. I mean, what is Wolverine without his yellow and blue?

I think it's gonna blow ass. :P

Titanic -NOOO! Just a joke!! please don't.. *ouch!*

Sure: The Crow, Braveheart, the Matrix, STAR WARS,... and some really OLD movies (i mean Black and white B-Movie kinda old)

U sure? It's a totally separate entity from the Scientology-religion, just happens to have the same author. BE has nothing to do with it, except for the fact that it has Travolta in it, who is a Scientologist.
I think it's really annoying that people will not go see the movie because of a non-related religion. And BE won't promote dick; it's a totally innocent sci-fi action movie. If you want to see hidden depths, go right ahead, but shouldn't you also then protest against all Travolta movies as well?

Ahh, fuck it. I don't care if you don't go see it because of your prejudices, but I'll go see it because it looks like an entertaining movie. Nothing else. If it converts me into a Scientologist, I'll be VERY, very surprised.

PS. I'm not a scientologist, and personally don't LIKE the religion all that much. So there.

Other upcoming movies: Mission Impossible 2, Mission to Mars, Hollowman, Dinosaur and various others. Too bad I live in the ass end of the planet, so it'll be about 6 months after their release in America before I can even CONSIDER going to see them.

Good movies (that haven't been mentioned):
Plan 9 From Outer Space. <-pure genious from start to finish.

Anything by Kurosawa and John Woo's HK produtcions, The Killer, Hardboiled and A Better Tomorrow.
Kubrick's Dr.Strangelove.
JFK, Natural Born Killers, Ghost in the Shell, Monty Python's Search for the Holy Grail, etcetera ad infinitum.

Ah yes, MI2. I dident like the first movie. John Woo is directing the new one. (I dont know if that is a good or bad thing, I dont know who Mr. Woo is)

Mission to Mars is a cool movie. Although the critics hated it for some reason.

Okay..about the Scientology thing. I *do* find it an unusual coincidence that Travolta is doing this piece written b L.Ron Hubbard. I find it a bit naive that someone would look at a piece of literature and consequently a movie as "harmless sci-fi". Especially coming from LRH. Ask yourself this...if someone from ...say...extreme Right Wing Christianity wrote a novel (maybe not Directly preaching at you) and a very prominent actor (Openly a Right Wing Christian) starred in this piece, you're telling me you wouldn't have doubts about agenda? *sigh* Anyway...'nuff about that.

On to MI2 and Jon Woo. I used to be a fan of his work, but there is only so much jumping sideways while firing guns akimbo that I can take. Although this is one of his *signature styles* he needs to deepen the well a bit.
The Movie I can hardly wait for is the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. This trilogy is going to rock George Lucas's fat ass.
I was at first skeptical about it, hearing they were taping in New Zealand, etc...I was having dreams of a slightly higher budgeted Xena or Hercules, complete with Ring Wraiths flying through the air after being hit from their horses. BUT..after hearing who is directing, and seeing the trailer along with a TOP NOTCH cast list (several Shakespearan actors) I am thoroughly impressed. No, I wouldn't. Hey, that's just me. If the movie's about aliens invading and enslaving planet Earth and its inhabitants, I just don't see how the fact that the author or actor was a Right Wing Christian would affect it? Sure the content matter might be toned down a bit, but sfw? Ahh, but enough about this... To each their own.
Oh, and btw, it was Travolta who initiated the entire project.

As I said, I like John Woo's HK-stuff. And Face/Off is ok, but it still doesn't compare. Chow Yun Fat helps, a LOT.

And LoTR goes without saying.

Just have to wait until Christmas 2001 for the 1st one. *ouch*

I am very much looking forward to both X-Men and Titan AE. I think Don Bluth is an excellent director and animator and that he'll do the film justice.

As for the X-Men's costumes, you can think all you want, but colorful spandex suits look rediculous in real life. Putting the X-Men in matching team uniforms seems to me to be both logical and practical.

Personally I think John read the book and liked it, now hes just having some fun.
X-Men will kick ass just because it is X-Men, leather jackets or not. And any well written animated movie rocks!

But I don't wanna get anyone all crazy, that is just my opinion. BTW, Usual Suspects and 3 Kings are some of the damn coolest movies ever.

Call me a party pooper but I can't see another Lord of the Rings film meeting expectations. There aren't many books that travel well to the big screen (just look at the first LotR movie - utter pants!) Lord of the Rings is set on such a huge scale that there is bound to be masses of important bits cut out for the sake of budget and film length - I can just see Frodo leaving Hobbiton and arriving in Rivendell 30 seconds later,bypassing the mines of Moria, a quick stop over in Isengard then on to Mordor to destroy the ring and back home in time for tea and biscuits.Also, who on earth are they going to get to play Aragorn when i'm the only one who is good looking enough. . .

Ned...I agreed with your POV up until I saw the list of actors playing the parts and a trailer...I can't vouch for the entire thing, but if they take out the Mines of Moria I'll travel to New Zealand myself and beat the hell out of them.
For Aragorn, they've got the guy from Goldeneye (the Double 0 Agent who went bad)..he's also the Irish killer after Harrison Ford and his family in Patriot Games. All around a good choice. Although you might be better looking..hehe.
