I'm actually using an older version of Painter. I think Corel bought it from MetaCreations. Mine came with my Wacom when I got it back in '98. It is a beautiful thing though. I love how well it simulates *real* art tools. Photoshop always seems too "technical" or too smooth for my taste. I like picture made on computer to look like they were really made by hand. This gets frustrating when you're not good with backgrounds. Painter Classic doesn't do "layers" at all the way you're used to with Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro.
As far as the mouth is concerned, that part took me about the longest to do and I quit before I was satisfied with the way it looked. I think I'll just go back and move/resize it, then change the opacity of the bubble when I adjust the outlines on it later as well. |

you mean "painter classic" it's great I think it's actually better than painter 6/7 for short sketching cus nothing really gets in the way of drawing
painter is wunderfull for broad sketches and loose drawings, but photoshop is king when it comes to pixelwork (textures and such) |

Correct me if i'm wrong, but shouldn't the bubble be more opaque(is that the word, even) in the middle? Right now it seems flat. |

nah, it needs to be more opaque at the edges. and a more gradual transition from centre to edge. its an awesome pic! the structure of the ear is a bit off in places but otherwise its great. i love the eyes... |

Actually, you're both right, the bubble should be more opaque in the middle where there is more gum in the mouth (don't worry, I'm suppressing my engineer's urge to explain the mechanics and conservation of mass involved ) and more opaque near the edges where there is more gum material in the line of sight (at a greater angle from you as well). And the ear is just an anatomical hang-up of mine. Many people suggested using a stylized and more simplistic ear whereas I prefer to reflect realistic anatomy but don't have a good reference so I'm just guessing.
These issues are in the process of being fixed as well as other minor concerns involving the use of shadow, the crispness (or lack thereof) with the hair, and the size/location/pose of the mouth.
All this aside though, I'm very happy that everyone is happy with the relative lack of originality of the poses. I don't know why but it seems I do my best stuff with this exact same pose. Heck, this is even a stretch in terms of lighting. I almost exclusively used bland, ambient lighting in the past. It is work from people on these forums that inspires me to keep trying new stuff though. I loved that picture of the Cowboy you did Roundeye! |

Sorry for the large image dimensions, but I wanted to share my love for detail with everyone that stops by to see the final version of this "quick" drawing. It isn't "final" in the sense that there is nothin left to improve, far from it. I'm just throwing in the towel at this point. It is like a you keep telling that nobody gets: eventually you gotta just move on...
