Hi again. I just wanted to share with everyone some pics of my latest sculpture.

Its a sculpture of a small baby, and when I say small I mean small. It fits in the palm of my hand.

I tell ya, its hard sculpting small like this. The sculpt is pretty mush complete. I just need to do some finishing on it.I need to smooth the clay and do a couple other small things to it.

The sculpt took me about 15 hours over the course of 4 days. I used Super Sculpy clay.

I'm looking for any comments on what everyone thinks. I've sculpted, Monsters, fantasy figures, superheroes etc. This is the first time I've tried sculpting a baby.

Its one of the most fantastic things I have ever seen on this board. The detail is incredible and the lifelike quality is amazing. I have no great love of babies but I would pay good money for this sculpture, GOOD money as I have never seen anything quite like it.

The bulge of the skin on the arms and legs is exquisite and CORRECT (or seems so to me ) as well as the sculpting of the feet. The pose you have chosen is excellent as well.

The knuckles on the hands are indents? Did you decide to do this because of your extremely small scale?

Nice work ,I like it.
But it's something about his wrists that look strange..it looks a litle bit like he has a shirt on. So mabey a smother transfer between arm and hands , mabey thiner wrists too.

Yes. I will smooth them out a bit so they arent so prominent.

Good eye. This is actually something I noticed I need to fix. Also I need to shave down the legs a bit. Its funny how you see new things to fix after you take pictures.

Very cool. Looks like you can compete with my sculpture teacher, who makes masks for Buffy the Vampire Slayer here in L.A.. I'm working on a half-life size sculpture of George Lucas and I know how hard it is to get small things right. That tiny baby is great! Are you going to make a cast from it? What are you going to use for the mold/cast?

Galen, Yes I noticed that too. I will sand the head down a bit.

I will be starting a Yoda sculpture soon. Probably about 10 inches tall.

The lack of a neck is bothering me though. but maybe i am wrong. maybe its the size of the head...

i think his arms look a bit like it's wearing a neoprene suit.. the wrinkles of fat are to small, i think.. that makes it look like there's a thick layer of skin that's not connected to the bones.. if you know what i mean.. other than that.. really really cool!

oh yeah...i havent had any instruction in sculpting.....what kind of tools do you use? do you do additive or subtractive sculpture...ummmmm i dont know what else to ask
but any info is helpful ...your stuff is great!

oh yeah again...hehehe....i think the picture with the natural light with the window is spooky....that face looks too real

Yes a newborn like this doesnt have much of a neck. The ref pic I looked at didnt really have a neck at least.

The pics are kinda misleading. I will work on that a bit. When its painted it should look better.

Well my sculpting technique I guess would be additive. Cause I add clay everywhere and form it, shave it, flaten it, smooth it etc.

For tools I use a wooden tool that looks like a fountain pen with a wire hoop on one end. I use a small tool that looks like a pencil except it has a exacto like blade on one end and a curved hook on the other.

I also use some dental tools with various ends, and some homeade small tools.
