well, that was just a dream i had last week, and here i'm trying to capture it. Anyway, I've been concentracing on learning to draw 3/4 view potrait for over a year now, here's my current progress. Please critique it, tell me which part of the face i should learn and improve. Thank you, now i gotta start reading the Sargent notes i printed out from last year.

Yep, you've captured the dreamy mood well. As for likeness, I can't tell unless you post the reference (what, no interface in your neck? :-)
Parts of it are photographic real to me, but something else I can't put my finger on bothers me a bit... The size of the head compared to the body? Maybe just the different style of the clothes (less contrast)?
(BTW: The rail in the fg rocks!) |

Yeah...I tend to like more contrast in the clothes...the rail seems to taper as it goes down the pic...
there really is a sense of photorealism, but its not totally plausible to me. maybe it's the hair; the smudging strand thingie seems to weld the hair together into one big block...but I guess that's my own interpretation. |

Dr. Bang: Why are you having dreams about girls on subways? Are you sure it wasn't OC Transpo?
Nice work btw, I like the soft feel, and the greyscale is refreshing. |

maybe the problem is the sholder? it seems kind of off to me, try making it less spherical and more egg shaped, no one has perfectly round arms like that) |

This is a really cool capture of a dream! Only thing that looks a little wrong is one of the eyes (the right from her perspective) is a little to high. Its barely noticable, it just seems a lil off. I love how it seems like its coming from the dreeamers perspective.
[edit] btw, the hair is very spectacular
On another note: do you dream in black an white? I've heard that a lot of people do, but i dream in color. What shades do everyone else dream in?

wow, i'd like having that dream too
the mood is very strong in this picture and the expression of her face is one of a kind that i tend to see quite often in dreams. it is the kind of expression that says very much without moving the lips like -at least in mine- it is very often in dreams.
really catchy |

hmmm yes very nice
Something you might try that you did a little of, using blackness to define the picture more, so you can define the outlines with light.
because.
The left side of the face looks a little wierd perspective wise, maybe. yes. no. I don't know.
But it would definately look very good if you contrasted more in the actual forms.
