You haven't really gone far enough with the combining of elements though. The lighting on the guy being burned doesn't match the lighting situation (ie. bright flame), and the flame doesn't look to be interacting with his body at all. These are almost the main two things you would look at if you were doing this sort of work professionally.

Keep working on it, I think it could be funny if it was more convincing.

Why the angry-face? Please also, if you want c&c, tell me what you're trying to accomplish in this image. What is the context, the background, the intent?

Crit: I think you could have increased the effect by making the victim burn, or at least his/her clothes. And flames should be deflected by the face, turning up and down. The top of the shirt should be brightened to reflect all that light - look at the hand holding the lighter, that's how bright the shirt of the victim should be.
Also I'd recommend you to not "break the fourth wall" as they say in the movies - always avoid eye contact, it kind of breaks the suspension of disbelief and reveals the whole thing as a gag. But perhaps that's the idea.

Crop it so that the attention is more focused. The Pyro's face is somewhat blury, and looking at the camera.

Wow ! Yeah that is a lot better , it even looks believable. Very impressedwith what you did with it JCameron.. I like how you selected the greenish skull for it .. do you have prior knowledge of what certain materials colors are as they burn? I just dont think I would have picked that color... but it woks brilliantly. Photo manipulation sometimes gets overlooked in this Forums, but it is definitely an art as demonstrated here.

Why you should never try to do a tv commercial for hairspray on the cheap - particularly not using your producer's idiot nephew as the makeup artist, and a chainsmoking bum as the actor.

I wasn't sure if I'd get flamed (no pun intended) over messing with someone's pic or not.
As for the skull I just played with the hue and saturation until it jived.

I would also love to see more photomanipulation. If any body has some links, or pics....

First of all: I did that thing in ~ 5 - 10 minutes and my intention was nothing but PHUN. It is NOT meant to be a perfect photo manipulation. JCameron, I like your pic, but it doesn't look "realistic" either. Check the saturation of your fire lightning on his shirt and his cap, doesn't really fit. The flame tops are too blurry and smudgy. The skeleton face thing is way too exaggerated, that ain't no 10000�C super flame thrower or shiat, that's a damn spray can - and regarding the "burning clothes" critique, well, that depends on how long you spray, right? In the first (milli)seconds the clothes wouldn't burn, there would be just a beam of fire and nothing more, no burnt-down-to-the-bone special fx or crap. Sure, the lightning ain't right, I know that. As said b4, I like your pic nevertheless because this massive exaggeration emphasizes the funney in that pic. Very neat.

So why the angry face on your post? Next time make it clear it's just a gag. Now I feel I wasted precious time trying to help you make your picture better. Perhaps posts like this belong in the Random Musings section, and not in the section for Finished Digital Art.

That's pretty damn funny.

I know this was just whipped together as a photomanip "sketch" if you will. I'd love to see a full out version with proper lighting, if you have the time.
As you say though, no skull, or even a face shown, or the joke is lost. Pyroboy would've have to have been burning the poor slob for some time. In the world of cartoon reality. The skull would come in on frame 2.

good point red leader. Id like to see someone do the second frame in "real life"... god that wouldnt be pretty... some nice horrible blistering... no exposed hair... a little char and dried up blood maybe. Ive got to say though te scull has great comedic affect, its an interesting project to take comic ideals and apply them to realistic photo manipulation. Sorta reminds me off a gore clip from that movie The Mask. Comic book style violence with real results ,ouch.

I think the original is rather convincing, anyone other than people who use this forum would probably think that the guy is really torching his friend. The enhanced version is indeed much more "cool" however it is not believable. Of course, it doesn't NEED to be, it's a gag fer cripes sakes! Photo manipulation is indeed an art form which deserves respect. It is not always an easy thing to do.

But if I was going to do it I would take one photo of the guy actually setting another guy on fire with an aerosol can. This would ensure that all the proper lighting angles and whatnot would be in place. Sometimes you must suffer for your art.
