G'day Everyone,

well I've spent some time on this image and thought I would get some comments (original artwork is Joe Madureira and Townsend). This is the first time that I've had a serious attempt at the LIQUID! style of colouring so obviously I'm still figuring it out while 'merging' a bit of my own style into it. Comments and Crits.

Very nice 'Liquid-esque' coloring job. I would establish a first read because right now my eyes just go all over the place. I think its due to so many of the same highlights everywhere. I love your technique but also think about where the light source is coming from. First think about your most important element and establish your brightest highlight on your focal point or first read. The you may want to use some reflected colored lighting for the bottom light source on the turtles, maybe coming from the green goo or something. I can definetly see the way your using the skin color of the turtles from darkest to lightest to set them apart but play that up even more so you add seperation and depth. I hope that helps. Later.

Thanks guys for the comments. Once I made the image a tile background in windows, I saw all the 'mistakes' clearly (kinda like when you flip an image over). I would have to agree that lighting is a huge issue and I'm just kicking myself for it - such a basic and stupid mistake. I've just spent too much time concerntrating on the style and getting that right and sorta forgetting about some fundamentals. Ah well, at least I think I've figured out the whole LIQUID! style so hopefully the next image won't have this problem.

If you're looking to color in a LIQUID! style, might I suggest you use harder cuts in your slicing. And as stated above, define a light source.

But, overall at really great image.
BTW~ I really like how you did the puddle of slime the little turtle's in. Good stuff.

Take it easy,
MDM
