What do you think?
I'm doing this for a project in school. Linolium cut layout. Thus all the clean lines.
edit: ok. I removed the upper black bg. I also changed the alien a bit. Should make more sense now. I hope..

it's an alien, i see it clearly and the drawing style is verrry cool but it goes lost with the white outline and black bg, that's far too many blends there = confusing. |

dude, that would make a kick ass lino cut!
I wasnt especially keen on lino cuts when i did them... however i have some drawings that i really want to experiment with now.
Printmaking is one of the art making processes that meshes best with digital art (other than photography) because of the process of printing itself. If you have done any solar plates, or will be doing them, do you design first in photoshop or something, and print out the color seperations (CMYK) for a 4 plate solar plate process. one of my friends solely does that and gets wonderful results.
man, i want to get back into that stuff now
here is my very first print, and it was lino:
heh, sorry to steal your thunder here with this, but i thought you may be interested (i know my registration was off too... it was my first print, gimme a break )

forgot this in thelast one... ah well.
when i first saw it, i didnt see it as an alien at all. I saw it as a crocked kind of tree, maybe a bansi? Regardless of the type of tree, the organic look and feel of it just said "tree" to me.
however, i do see the alien now and thats all i can see anymore |

The Alien looks like he's kicking back in a comfy chair, looking for his brew and the remote control. Is he supposed to be so... laid back? Is he supposed to be coming out of something and that's why I can't see his feet?
I do like the bold shapes though, especially the white noogy bits on his head.

Is this going to become a logo? It'd be an eye-grabber if it was. |

I think it is absolutely brilliant! You have a fascinating style. I do get the mother alien in her nest, right?-------------Luis |

Everyone: Thanks for all the positive feedback
My original intention was to make something alien-looking, but not the actual Giger one. At this point I'd say it could go either way.
As for what it is doing.. I was looking more for a nice composition than a descriptive scene. But, I think MrLuisDiaz comes the closest to what I'd say myself.
highfive: Nah, not a logo. But I do have a huge version of it, should someone be interested
Pat: Lol. Good observation. I would have agreed with you 100% if I had done it as a caricature.
Moose: yeah, its great fun! I think I'll be doing more if this one comes out a success. |
