Here is the original.
And here is the final version.
As you can see I had to paint more into the image at the top and bottom to fit the aspect ratio of the cover. Over all I'm pretty happy with it. It's too late for me to make any changes for he book but I'd still like to learn from you all. TIA |

Looks great!. I love the eyes. I think there need to be some motion blur around the wolf. I think it would give it a more impact. |

I remember this piece! Looks absolutely amazing. I especially love the glow behind his hand and the amulet around his neck. |

'scuse me a sec while I put my eyes back into thier sockets.. thats very cool. the eras do kinda look like horns. I probably made them a touch shorter & not curvy. But that is just my opinion / how I would have done it. & just to re-iterate, it looks really good |

I think the expression could be more rageful but that's just pretty nice work as it is. Terrific! |

Thanks to you all for the nice response.
the_monkey-- I admit the ears are perhaps a little strange. I just wanted to do something different that's all.
Monkey Majick-- Thanks I enjoy the eyes too. I actually thought about doing some kind of blur effect but I was having so much fun putting in all the details that in the end I guess I was a little afraid of goofing it up.Thanks for your comments.
roundeye-- Thanks! I have yet to get my percentage on this cover. I have a day job and have been waiving up front money in favor of a larger percentage of the total sales of the books. I'm glad you like my site. It is simple but I enjoy it. BTW you indicated recognition of me. Who is it that I am? Just curious where you know me from.
Jezebel-- An honor to get a visit from you. Thank you for your kind words.
Akukage-- Thanks. I hope your eyes didn't get hurt too bad.
Tepox-- Thanks. I'm posting a close-up of a portion of the final image just for those of you who like the detail.
Ripelly-- I pondered over the rage aspect of this image myself. I felt that what we are seeing is not so much rage as the natural pursuit of a nutritious meal. More of a feral act than an emotional one. Thanks so much for posting a comment.
StrangeFate-- Thanks. I have been practicing getting a painterly look to my Photoshop work. I still want to try some studies more loosely.
KOryH-- Thanks for the kind word. I would be interested in hearing more from you on the back lighting if the mood ever strikes you.
Thanks again all. |

Stunning!
There is a lot of time in this piece. The only thing that seems incongruous with your obvious attention to detail and skill level is the almost hurried effect of the back lighting of the fur. I would like to see that a little more resolved. I normally would do a paint over but I am not in the mood. I am sure the is some good reference out there for that sort of thing.
Once again, Stunning work.
Keep kickin ass, |

WOW! The details are amazing! Its for print, so hopefully this precise work will pay off. I couldnt load your website yet but Ill try again. Could you tell how much time you spent working on this piece? |

Uhh! Can't believe my eyes... just insane!
but many of those fine details are unnecessary 'cause of the print size (book cover)?!? |

Xoco-- Thanks. Our website was down for virus management today but we're back up and running. I would say I have about 60 hours of seat time on this image. That is only a guess because due to my day job it took place evenings and weekends over a period of months. I'm thinking of keeping a log on my next one just out of curiosity.
roundeye-- It does require a certain amount of patience to work this way. Good to know you both here and on epilogue.
-Tepox- -- Yeah I do get a little crazy for detail. I hope for it not to go to waste however as I have plans to release a poster in addition to the book cover.
Thanks again all for your feedback and comments. This will be my last bump on this thread. I'll reply to further comments I may get in private e-mails. |

OK, I thought it was pretty fantastic, but then you throw down the detail... The creases and ridges on that hand are just SICK!
I'm with Roundeye that I hope you are duly compensated! Good luck! |

Cool. I like how detailed and crisp it is. How did you do it. Opaque or transparent brushes? blurring smudge or no? dodge/burn or no? I would greatly appreciate your answer, thank you. |
