This isn't a whole lot different than it was when I posted it in WIP, but I am not going to do any more.
This is a painting of a friend of mine.
It was done in Photoshop, but I was trying to get something that looked like it was done with real paints, rather than PS. I think I did pretty well in that department.
the hair and the clothes arent great, but they arent going to get better in this picture.
click me
Crits and comments would be apreciated.

till the real expert here will reply
my opinion-
i think the deatails are ok and i like the shirt but i'm missing her character.somthing that is hard to trace and maybe u wanted to give her another expression.i mean,in the photo she has shy and a beat close expression, very privet look and the painthing seems to miss it. it's only my opinion.

Hi Duncan, I think It's 90% complete. ( do you use a tablet? )

I think It's too sharp. It would benefit from softening some of the outlines and features.

I've tried painting straight in their, and I know how hard It Is...so their's a lot of respect for what you have done here.

If you carried on tinkerin' with It, I'm sure you would get the realism that that you've gone for.

Respect for a Very difficult task.

Best Regards

Paul

nice pic!
i did a quick overpaint of it... i hope you don't mind, its quite rough and messy, but i hope it illustrates what could be improved in your pic imho...
the light on this kind of photos is quite bad for portraits i think. if you go for a good portrait choose a good photo (maybe take a new one with good illumination), paint from life or try to change the lightning in you photo in your mind to make it more pleasing for a portrait (this is good lightning practice also!).

I just repainted morphgfx's repaint..

anyways duncan, dont be afraid of much harder shadows and lights. Adding highlights and shadows will greatly improve the depth in your pic. Its a pretty good portrait over all and I would like to see you use your own pallete to achieve the same effect Ive just illustrated here. (I just used dodge and burn to get the point across)

goodluck.
