Thanks guys for the responses. It seems to have struck a chord with a few people. I love though how jr was able to see a 'funny' side to it. It was one of those drawings that started out with a lose pencil sketch and then photoshoped/wacomed. When I get a chance, I'm playing around with this pseudo photorealistic style.

Hey defintely strikes a chord. Great painting.

I think that the higlights on the hair are a bit weird. (maybe thats to do with the pseudo realistic.. thingy.)

The mans shadow is good except it looks like he has a huuuuuuuuuuuge body. Maybe he is sitting in an armchair...?

The overlapping shadow is wrong. It doesnt get darker when two shadows overlap, I dont think according to my little experiment just then..

Hope that helps.

OH HELL YAH
I realy like that....
DAMN

Not sure if anyone else has said this. And Im probably wrong.
But I think the highlights on the little girls hair is a bit much....maybe they could be toned down a tad....kinda looks like plastic...
OH Well

Thats just me trying to help.
WAY TO GO

Matt,
I love it! Clear communication, without even showing the dad. It's a universal idea too. And nicely rendered.

Toes look a little weird. And I'd put the Dad's head a little higher. It's good though.

Images don't really strike any inner chords in me but this one does. I have a one year old daughter and I'm very discreet when me and my wife ever have an arguement. I have a load bark I don't want her to experience what I've experienced.

I remember when I was a child and hearing my father curse, yell and break shit all the time used to really mess me up.

I like the quality and detail you put into this piece. The black and white palette works well with this.

probably the most troublesome painting I've seen in a loooong time. Ouch. Well done.

Thanks for everyone taking the time to reply. I'm kinda taken back with some of the replies, which is kinda ironic considering that is what it seems to have done for some people. Guess it is one of those things that it's what people bring along to a piece, and how they chose to interupt it, that makes it interesting / challenging / upseting. For most of my pieces I try to present 'visual clues' for people to interupt for themselves.

Jenn - two heads?! I'm kinda lost, do you mean there should be 2 heads in the image instead of the shadow?

Ian Jones - yes... hair highlights are that... psuedo photorealistic style (actually it was were I was being lazy). The huge shadow ... hmmm.... kinda an effect, by taking up that amount of space, for mine, it makes it a bit more dramatic. Thanks for picking up the shadow, didn't even occur to me at the time (boy is there some egg-yoke on my face).

Blitz - yeah the hair is a bit of an issue. It was one of the things that I did last and I could feel myself ruining the image with each stroke. So i presssed the emergency eject button and left as it.

FireFry - glad you liked it. I would imagine there are very few people who enjoyed being yelled at, let alone by a parent. In this case, I think it is more than just forgetting to put your toys away.

PetraPan - thanks for the kind words. Glad you took the time to have a look at the website. Hope you found something you liked.

nickmarksdotcom - stepfather for mine...

AliasMoze - glad 'cha liked it. Certainly an image burned into my mind. The head may be a little bit too big, body too big, still have yet to make my mind up about that one. The toes are a little weird, again lazy and I've tried to diguise it a little bit with shadows.

raist - similar sort of deal. Something that I am very conscious of if and when I hear the pitter-patter of little feat. Something to try to make you stronger from though and really appreciate what it means.

smaddl - glad that you can get something out of it. One of the things that I really like about art, language is pretty much no barrier.

n8 - good to hear from ya dude, been awhile. Nah it wasn't for uni, finished that gig last year and now out in the big bad ole' world.

Quasar - no worries dude

egerie - bunch of sensitive kiddies, maybe. jr seemed to be sensitive to something else but nice to end on a positive note:

* quickly thinks happy thoughts *
