I was wondering if Sijun was going to be up again. It would be a horrible loss if this forum of professionals and other killer artists went down permanently...

Since everyone is showing what they've been up to during the downtime, I suppose it's my duty to as well. See? I haven't been a slacker. ;} If you so desire, please check out my new site:

www.merekatcreations.com

And as for pics, forgive me, I don't remember if I posted this here or not before... Here is one I've collaborated on with Fred Gallagher of Megatokyo fame. I think a few of you have heard of the comic... This and another (he provided lineart, I colored/rendered) will be printed in poster form hopefully soon. Based on NWN's Aribeth, Pirogoeth is a spoof played by one of the main characters (Piro) in the Megatokyo comic. Hey, Bioware liked it enough to put on their homepage. ;} That counts for SOMEthing, right? ;P ;}

Pirogoeth

You can C&C if you like, but the Pirogoeth pic is final. So it would just be for future reference. Any useful suggestions for my site, however, would be welcome. ;}

Wow!! that colouring is fantastic. I saw someone colour it a few months back and when I had a look at your website, I began to see that it was part of a competition. I love what you've done with regards to the water - somewhat of an original idea. Keep up the great work.

i was checking out your site and i'm thinking two things:

a) wow. this art makes me tingly.

and b) hey, the style looks familiar.

then i say the megatokyo piece and i'm then going WOW. no i know where i've seen it. i've had that megatokyo nights pic as a wallpaper for quite some time.

very nice work. and great tutorials. thanks.

I was captivated by your portfolio-- It is amazing what strides your artwork has taken. Oh, and despite the boring subject matter, your shoe rendition was grrreat! The girl manuevering the laser trip wire had great line art, but I think you didn't do it justice with your coloring. Ever thought of giving it a second try?

Thank you everyone for your great replies. ;}

Matt Elder: thank you! ;} I try to stay original, though in my last couple projects it didn't turn out quite as unique as I would have liked, but I did love the challenge of Jhenna's water. ;}

jcterminal: tingly? wow. ;} thanks. :} and you're welcome on the tuts. that's what they're there for. ;}

Hoodz: aw, c'mon, a girl's gotta have SOME secrets! ;P ;}

BigJon: Thank you, thank you. ;}

NeoFun: nope. ;} no redos! Any lessons learned unless there are extreme circumstances are for future projects only. ;} thanks anyway. ;} what good would it do me to redo Mynx? I'd still have no guys in my portfolio. And no architectural shots. See? Gotta always try new things. Speaking of guys and architecture...

666Flat: um. okay. ;}

ex: thanks. ;}

Jezebel: hello dear! ;} thank you. I'm glad us girls stick together. ;}

Cicinimo: ;} Thanks for the long comment, Jaime. ;} It's always nice to read such things and I do very much appreciate your taking the time. Yeah, the trees were a little rushed, but it's okay. Trying to convince Piro to hurry up with the printers. Don't worry, we're nearly there. ;}

Thanks again, everyone! Any suggestions for additions to my site?

Beautiful piece. I saw this not too long ago actually... was telling a friend about how many really great female artists there are and I decided to visit your website. That piece in particular caught my eye, it's lovely =)

Hehe, of course I've seen and gawked over Pirogeth, but I never got the chance to actually comment on it .

First, I love the lighting. Its pretty dramatic, especially if I turn the contrast up, and the brightness down on my screen (don't ask how I discovered that :P). I also see what you've tried to explain to me (more than once) on the lack of saturated color in dark situations. All so cool. For some reason, one of my favorite parts is the way you did the hand, and the energy ball (er...that white thingy), along with all the little textures. The color of the sky is perfect to push out the foreground, and its swirls really conveys that 'epic' (at the risk of sounding cheesy) feel. If I have to look really, really hard for something I don't especially like, it would be the trees just to her right. You did light outlines ontop of the bits of pine trees. In the rest of the picture, it looks cool. But in that little spot...it just reminds me of of cardboard cutouts in the shape of moose antlers. Maybe because the white outline is so exact to the shape of the brush (did you use a lighter brush first, then a darker brush of the same shape just below?).

About your website; I go there often, and I'm amazed how frequently you update pencil sketches. I like.
