I had to create a birdlike creature called a Dorendor. It's one of many monsters/creatures I'm creating.

I posted the sketch for this in wip.
c&c is welcome

Very careful job!
Must spend a long time. My only critique is that perhaps the helmet should be moved up a little. It seemed that it made the head too flat. =)

Nice birdie birdie!

Dont really have anything to crit, perhaps you could add some orange to the helmet and bird since you have a pretty strong orange light or something coming from the lower right side ?

Sweet, its very good.

The only crit I have is, the lighting on the front of the helmet. I think making it a bit more shiny would make it look better. I love the rest of the helmet.

Yay, I'm really liking the bird-creature. Especially that eye - it has an intelligence in the eye that I think that a lot of people miss out on, when drawing animal-like humanoid creatures. Very nice.

Like the commenter before me, I think that the strong orange light demands for some orange highlighting on the bird and helmet. The orange otherwise makes it look unnecessary flat and takes away from the image. Of course, that's just my opinion =) Feel free to disregard it (=

think 3d... perspective on feathers... o and feathers are way too blurry i would make them strong and sharp
simple shapes...
maybe even other angle so it wouldn't look so flat

sorry but i like your other pictures more

ebrian:
Yeah I was a little unsure about the helmet. It's not easy to fit a helmet to a bird.

java:
Thanks!
The original background was more dark olive green but I thougt I'd take a chance and use somethiong a bit more colorful.
I agree with you.
I considered adding some orangish lighting but I got too tired of this and called it completed.

gLitterbug:
I agree. Thanks!

Enayla:
Thanks!
That's great to hear as this creature is supposed to be semi intelligent.
Flat is not good. I just may tweak this a bit.

Shiro_tengu:
Hey thanks
I take it a tengu is a birdlike creature?

m703-324:
Hey no prob!
Thats's why I posted here. To get some crits good and bad. I lose view of an image after working on it for awhile so it's nice to get comments and crits from others that have never seen it.

very nice and detailed.

what i first noticed is that the neck looks a little flat and the metal helmet could do with some much stronger shadows and hilights
(this may have been mentioned before but i cant be assed reading the previous comments )

good stuff!

God I am feeling really anal today. Thats really a great picture, 100 times better than I can do, but the helmet bugs me big time, its created to fit a bird in the perched position, what about when the bird flies? That helmet will restrict totally his ability to fly or even flap around. Like I said, I'm just feeling anal, must be time to check my blood sugar again...
Again, it really is a great picture.

shamhead:
Hey thanks.
I am aware of what you pointed out and I agree.

patrick:
No problem. Functionality crits are welcome too.

Great observations
Actually the bird is actually flightless and it's stand as tall as a human.
If it cocked it's head back the segments in the back of the helmet would slide in.

Raist - yeah the Tengu is half man half bird. It is the mythical forefather of the ninja. I believe the bird part was crow-like - beak and wings. an expert swordsman as well.
(my nickname means a white one!)

raist: Ok, I could be totally wrong here, but the perspective looks weird to me. The helmet seems to be in a profile view while the bird's head seems more at an angle(I could be wrong about that). Anyway, I like it a lot. Nice work.

shiro_tengu: Another characteristic of the tengu was their extremely long noses. btw, for your name to be proper, it should be shiroi tengu. The 'i' at the end making it an adjective.

Reminds me of Thorondor, the great captain of the eagles of Manwe in the Silmarilion. His wings were what, 30 leagues wide? :] Great work, crits have been covered.

Shiro_tengu:
Cool. You should draw a representation of your name.

Bishop_Six:
I was hoping it was not too noticeable. But yeah I think the lighting on the beak threw off the perspective off a bit.

Anthony:
Thorondor? Hmm. Sounds alot like Dorendor.
So that must be where they got the name.
This character is part of the storyline for the game I'm helping with. I doing all the visual representations of the monster and characters in the story.
