Hi, not much I can say about this in the way of critique. The main thing is that the colors in your image are very saturated, you might want to try toning things down a bit in future work.
Other than that, all I can say is keep working, you're at a stage where almost all of your learning must come from studying and practicing on your own. I'd suggest going to your local bookstore and finding a couple of drawing books. Study those and personally I'd stay stick with sketching for a while till you get a good hold on form and value. Once you feel you've got a good hold on things and can comfortably render, with accuracy, most anything you see, then move on to color and start exploring it. I think you will be much more successful that way. Color can be very tricky if you dive right into it, but if you build up a good base, you'll have a lot more to work off of and your art will improve greatly.
Not to say that I don't like the character, he's kinda 'cute' in his own way, but I think there is a lot of your vision for the character that you were unable to communicate in the final product. Keep at it, stick with sketching and I suggest staying away from color for a little while. I think that will be your best bet for improvement, but I am in no way saying it's the only way to go. If color intrigues you and you have fun working with it, then don't let me ruin the party. But I do highly recommend doing a bunch of sketching over the coming months and years.
