hi! i've been lurking around here for a while, and to be honest, i'm pretty intimidated. everyone here is an amazing artist, which seems to keep expectations high on this board. which is splendiferous, frankly. i hope i can keep my head barely above water here.
so it looks like the WIP board is down, and i'd like some critiquing and fixing on this picture before i finish 'inking' it. it's cleopatra, part of a project i'm doing for work; nothing particularly original, but i love doing profiles, and after the last picture i fought over i decided i needed to do something fun to settle down.
without further ado (or rambling):
obviously a lot of the detail (the wing, for example) isn't in there yet. tell me what you think, and what i need to fix up, etc. thank you in advance!

Well, let me welcome you to the board. I must say that I agree with the amazing talent level here, but don't be afraid. Everyone here adds something cool.
I really like this art. You have a really nice smooth look to your line work. At this point, my only comment is to watch the line for the back of the neck. It is mostly covered with hair, but at the angle it goes up, it would give her a weirdly shaped neck.
(I do realize it is still rough back there!)
Anyway, I like it a lot. I hope to see many postings in the future!

WOW! Really great lines! The style is somewhat similar to my work.
she looks very...ummm what's the word, ohh yeah, kissable..hehe
I tried to find some imperfection or critique, but at this stage everything looks perfect IMO. I can't wait to see all the sharp lines and ink of the finished piece.
Good Luck!

Manga is one of those styles that quickly exposes whether or not the artist "gets" why they're drawing the way they are . . . and from the stuff on your site, it looks like you get it just fine. I like how you handled her ear.
Welcome aboard.
I'd tell you I'm just down in Provo, but that usually gets the same reaction as hearing about someone dying. |

wowee! so many replies! *Beams*
thanks for pointing out the potential problem in the back of her neck. i'll be sure to pay attention to that.
as for the lines, i move around the sketch with the pencil until i get a rather thick line i want and then clean it up with the eraser. (read: tedius and time consuming) for some reason i'm being extra neurotic with the lines on this picture. think it's because i have all the time in the world to kill at work and no deadline to weigh me down. thank you all for so much support and welcome!

I have to agree that your line work is fantastic. It may seem a trivial remark to some, but good linework can set you miles apart from the rest. Isric is a perfect example of that. His linework puts his already outstanding work far above others. When I work with individuals on projects or am hiring at the companies, I usually look for clean line work as one indication of time and patience to complete a project. I hope we get to see more of your work and that we may get to see coloring work as well! |

Yea, I'm new here too and I was(and still am) intimidated by all the amazing things posted, too. That drawing looks great, though! I like the Egyptian theme, and I can't wait to see it finished. My only criticism is that the eye needs to be a little bigger. Taller. But that's minor..
