more doodling .. dunno why. the first was originally called ralph the angry, cold, hairy midget .. but i thought the line from the simpsons was funnier, "i'm a stabbing hobo!"
my boss came up and saw me doing these and said, "so THATS what we pay you for....it is good though. now get your ass back to work."
he saw an older picture i did and asked me to draw a picture of the comic character Dawn for him .. he knows the guy that illustrates the book and collects original pieces of art, both from him, and from any other artist he comes in contact with. he's even willing to pay me .. never thought about charging for art before, after seeing the things i've seen on this board i've always thought (knew?) that i was far too inferior to charge .. so we'll see how that goes. |

i practice anatomy when i actually have time to sit down. this and the last picture i posted were done at work, while talking to customers, hardly an ideal time to draw .. it just kept me from getting incredibly bored.
if i'm trying to draw someone with correct sizes and proportions, i can. i can definitely improve on my ability, but i know the basics. i just need to apply it more often in what i do .. most times i just feel like getting an idea down for a character rather than worrying about how their shirt would ripple with a certain muscle flexed.
sorry if i'm sounding mad, i'm not .. i realize neither one of these pictures are "correct" .. but they were just time-killers. |

Dude, this isn't meant as an insult..
.. but you seriously should take some life-drawing classes, or in the very least purchase an anatomy book. |

It's obvious he isn't aiming for realism, man. Cut him some slack.
My only crit is that it's suffering from "left hand bend" or whatever it's called. Everything is leaning to the left. |

I think he is trying a more "cartoony" look.
My only comment is to pick a side. If you want to draw in comic style, you will need to brush up on the anatomy. You will find that knowing the human figure will be a requirement for almost all that you draw.
On the other hand, if you do want to try a more "toon" style, I would look at the guys who are good. Disney, Warner, and Cartoon Network are a few good examples. That path will take you to a more "squash and stretch" look, and you are less bound by the rules of reality.
Or, you could always do both.
