That's really HUGE.
Looks ok to me.
The nose looks a little off, but a good job none the less.
Take it easy,

good work, but i think the left hole of the nose (..ahh, sorry bad description). and on the painting, you look like an afro-american, ....
did you use a pencil for drawing ? when yes, how long did it take to finish that great drawing? |

It's beautiful =) Really well done.
(And don't mind eddie...)
I do believe that the right side of your nose (our right, that is) is a little out of proportion, compared to what your face seems to look like =) But man, I could /never/ draw something that big and not completely screwed up... so who am I to talk? |

face looks a little too thin, bottom right of the neck might be done right might be done poorly, I don't know, but it looks weird and crumpled.
oh, and go fuck yourself eddie. |

I think the left side of the nose is wierd, or maybe it's the right? Don't know, but I would suggest you match them up regaurdless.
Either flare the right side out to match the left, or lessen the size of the left nostril to match the right. The later is what I would suggest.
Anyways.......As I said before, good stuff.
Take it easy,

BTW Everyone- I just want to say that the new "Planet of the Apes" movie rocks so HARD. Better than the first and I loved the first. Go see it NOW if you havn't already.
Sorry for going off topic. I just had to add that because I just got back from seeing it. |

Very nice work. Thats a REALLY difficult scale to work at, can't hide anything. How big was the original work? Was this a final project or gallery of some sort? How was it printed up? I think we would all love to have some of our personal work filling up a wall of our home! ![](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |

Delurking because I like this a lot!
I love the eyes and detail on the glasses. I'm guessing the one side of the nose is flared because of the "frightened" look on your face and the lip on that side is raised slightly. I'm sure it could be adjusted a little bit to not be so obvious, but I think I see what you tried to do and the overall pic is incredible! I'm trying to improve my drawing, so I know how difficult a job like this must have been.
Or, maybe not for you? |

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I like this online critique because people can be as ruthless as they want.
My comments aren't intended to be geared toward defending my work here... but I will point out some difficulties I encountered while working on this piece.
As a good friend of mine once said, "Have you ever stared in the mirror so long you just say, 'Damn! I'm ugly!?'" Drawing a self portrait is the hardest thing you'll ever draw. I did about 6 or 7 sketch book ones before this. The drawing we done in charcoal, with me standing very close to the mirror. (wich explains why the ears might appear small) And if you've ever done a self portrait you'd know that when you hold the mirror this close to your face, what you see out of your right eye is different from your left. You have to battle all your preconcieved ideas of what you look like. I think 4 of my sketches made me look like a football player with a THICK jaw. However this is not true. There are tons of things like this I had to break through.
-Including my assumtion that my nostrels are "perfect." Trust me folks when you look at yourself in a magnifying mirror you'll discover alot of strange things. I also think that a good drawing should be a strong reaction to the subject. Not just a record of appearance, but of feeling.
Anyhow, thanks again everybody! I really enjoy your feedback!
