Just out of curiousity, did you happen to trace any of it? or was it all freehand? |

100% Freehand. I wouldn't be proud of it enough to put it on here, if I had traced it. |

I looks good but you really should try not to copy other's work. I'd say if you want to draw comics then go out and buy a couple of anatomy books and start drawing. I recommend Burn Hogarth, George Bridgman and Andrew Loomis. Someone on this forum did every artist on the Internet a favor and scanned in ever page of one of Andrew Loomis' books. I think it was Figure Drawing for all it's Worth. Somebody here I'm sure has the link, I don't. Anyway, just start drawing from your head and when your not sure how a muscle should look just use an anatomy book as reference. |

well.. you did a pretty good job. I wasn't sure if you intended to modify a few things...because some parts are different. I noticed that some parts are lower than others.. some parts outta place etc... keep in mind that it may be beneficial to draw an underlying skeleton on the work you want to copy and then draw the skeleton again on a new piece. That way, it ensures that all porportions are right.
Second of all, it's ok to copy other pictures.... but keep in mind that if you do, you have to give credit to the original artist.... copying is nothing wrong... as you may learn how to draw this or that out of it...but eventually, keep in mind that you have to develop your own style... copying someone else's..although quite unavoidabe is not recommended...
anatomy books are a good way to go as well...but simply looking at anatomy books won't give you EVEN A GLANCE at the wide range of dynamic poses that could be used....and well..... then you just copy and learn |

I started out by using one figure drawing book. I used it because it was cheap. -_-;;
Drawing the Head and Figure by Jack Hamm. It's a very basic book. AFter that I went into life drawing. Try drawing from a photograph too. Or try drawing yo mamma hehe seriously, family members make good subjects... or just people on the streets too. Er yeah. Takes a lot of practice, but dont get discouraged. |

Nice Work. I don't think there is anything wrong with using other people's works as reference when you are learning to draw. I do the same thing. I think it helps a lot to see the right way to do things. I am hopeful that once I get anatomy and a general style down, I'll move on to original works. As long as you're not taking credit for the concept, I think it's fine.
I also have the Hamm book, but even more helpful I find is a series of books from Christopher Hart. He has some nice books on comic book heroes. |
