Hi all.
There are two of my old pencil drawings. check it. Many times i tried to colour them in PS, but i've failed. If there is some hint about colouring such pictures, please tell me how to do this correctly.

As always, any comments are welcome =) I'm a newbie here..

thx to you, guys.
I've found here good colouring tutorial by adigranov (don't sure 'bout name), and proceed with his technique.
Once again, it looks like shit
I dunno, may be there is some major mistakes in earlier stages of drawing...Can i get some advice?

Nice pic. Great textures and detail, but you're right about some of the early stage drawing being off. You've flattened the objects so they look like shapes rather than forms. Work on foreshortening during your early stages - making the objects recede into the background. For instance the figure's face is too frontal - too much of the left side is showing, I think, for the angle of the head. And the gun doesn't seem to recede enough. Just hammer out the basic perpsective and foreshortening early on, and then add your beautiful texture later on.

I really love the detail you put into the drawings and I admire their sharp qualities. The first one is definitely well drawn but her head or some part of her body seems a bit out of place. Nevertheless its very minute. The mech is perfect in my opinion. Perfectly scuplted,so to speak. On your coloring...if you say that looks horrible,my you certainly have put my to shame , because it looks very very very promising, if not very good.

the coloring is great
i suck at coloring =[
jst 1 issue on the hair
the highlight makes the hair look like 1 object with lines in it to define strands. it doens't look like separate strands.

this was done super fast...I will do a good one soon...I really like your pencils sketches...I find the easiest way to colour them is to use layers overtop of the sketch set usually to multiply or overlay...?
sorry about the lensflare...

Here's a quick colouring of a Roundeye sketch..I think it worked well too...

really great
i love especially the girl and the minigunner (and the photoshop effect is simple but very effective)

i have some questions if you dont mind

only 2b pencil ?
for the rough sketch you use also 2b pencil or hb or h ?
how long did it take to fully shade the girl for example ?
what kind of paper do you use ?
are you using those taped rolled paper thing to smooth the pencil ?
are you shading with very little hatrches and then you smooth them, or you are layering flat shades of gray ?

sorry for all the questions, but the work is awesome, and im really fighting to get half this quality of shading

Ugh, i'll try to answer...

>only 2b pencil ?
>for the rough sketch you use also 2b pencil
>or hb or h ?

2B or 3B always - not the hard ones, for sketches too.

>how long did it take to fully shade the girl for example ?

As i remember - about 5-6 hours. She was a part of composition (illustration) that i didn't finished

>what kind of paper do you use ?

I dunno Paper that usually used for technical drawings and schemes, A3...

>are you using those taped rolled paper thing
>to smooth the pencil ?

No, i have tried once, but the result was crappy.

>are you shading with very little hatrches

Yep, that's right.
