(I guess you guys remember that I posted a barney character for Half-life, Valve, that I did for a magasine fill illustration.)

Here's one Me and Micke did together, for the box cover of the game Halflife Blushift. It's quite some time since we did it, and it was made with strong restrictions. I think Valve change his face further for the cover, but then again, I'm not sure since there's a different cover here in Europe. and like last time, the background is just a mockup, because we only did the character.

hi.

the clothing is awesome. really spectacular. the rest is great as well - the only thing that kinda eludes me is the area between his eyes and bit below that on his nose, as a V shaped dark lined thingy. shouldnt the lines be flipped horizontally shaping the 'major' blood veins or eye sockets?

anyways good work

Nice!!
I really like the pose and the colors.

His eyes looks a bit blury compared to the rest of the picture. And the gunhandle looks a bit strange.. it looks like it's to thick to hold with one hand.

Or maybe it's just me being a bitch..

Hey Joa. Looks really nice. One thing bothers me though. Looks like the body and head/helmet was painted in two seperate settings? I mean - the strong light that hits the body from a lower right angle has no impact on the face and helmet... Now when I look further the head does look abit mirrored. Please tell me it isn't... Otherwise great job. The clothing/bodyarmor is unbeliveable nicely done. Great detail!
,Boom

edit> I was just wondering... How does Innerloop look upon you guys doing boxart etc. for non-Innerloop products???

I remember seeing this in the stores. It is kind of neat to know who did the cover

You both co-op so well, I guess you both give eachother a challenge and great critiques.

Nice job to the both of you!

DAMMIT, why does Europe get all the SHIT covers??? In blue shift, only the logo is on the cover... The list goes on for most games and dvds... WHY?

Anyway, as I can see from the small thumb, they seem to have resized the head a bit, adding 20 years or so

Great work guys, as usual!

I really don't like it. I'm sorry to say that but when I saw the cover in the shops I though 'Yuk, don't want to buy that'. Nothing technical, just a matter of taste.
I guess the bland face and the necktie with body armor are not very awe inspiring

As I said, just a matter of taste.

Daryl, thx. And, yeah I can see what you mean about the veins being to hard. I guess the reason is because we had to change his face expression a bit too many times.

dixter, thx ! yeah, I see what you mean.

boomstick, thx, ..head & helmet, hehe, yeah, I agree it can look that way. That helmet is a bit to sharp and strange deigned, or maybe we just didn't pull it off well enough. Hehe, no we didn't flip the face, but the restrictions we worked on were very tight.
Hehe, Innerloop don't care about us doing this, .....I think

Brain, thanks !

synj, thanks synj. ..you are too kind !

dryfire, thanks !

awetopsy, eyh, looks like the changed him a bit in the face.

gambit, thanks !

kos.mandis, hehe, actually I like that the covers in Europe are without explosions and characters in cool poses. Thanks btw

flexible elf, thanks flex !

black_fish, You are allowed to have that taste In some way I kind of feel a bit that way about it myself. But, you can't have that attitude when working with commersial stuff, then you won't get anywhere.. The cover was totally made the way Valve wanted it. They had the idea, how his face should look, his clothing and his pose, etc...So, we only did the execution....To be really honest, I never had a "thing" for half life in general, but if I didn't do the jobs because it wasn't my thing, I wouldn't have earned much money -agree ?

the creases in the shirt and the hands and the gun are awesome. at second glance the head looks a bit detached from the neck of the shirt though. I still prefer Counterstrike in terms of gameplay. Do a cover for CS

Verdammt gute Arbeit, Joachim! Ich kann Dich nicht vielleicht dazu berreden, mir einen Exklusiv-SAS Charakter mitsamt Steyr Aug - Wumme fr meine Website zu malen, oder? ODER?

/me geht auf die Knie

BITTTEEEEEEEEEE?

Ein kleines Bildchen wrde vllig ausreichen (ohne Hintergrund), denk mal drber nach - vielleicht hast Du ja mal nichts zu tun und langweilst Dich, da kme doch eine kleine nette Beschftigung fr zwischendurch gerade recht...!

Nice work. Really cool to know who did the art on that box I bought.

I have to admit I was kinda disappointed when I got it though, since I have the original game and Opposing force, I was hoping that the box would be "the same but blue", but it turned out to be a little smaller, and instead of a face close-up on the front of it like there was in the other two, there was this figure... It just didn't go with the rest of the series...

Oh I totally agree with you Joachim: a job is a job, and the guy who's paying can ask for what he wants. My comment was just pure personal taste, and not a critic of YOUR style or of YOUR taste. I think Valve (or Sierra) is totally responsible for this one.
When will Valve stop releasing poor rehashed rippoffs of their own 5 years old game and start doing some original content?

Cool, I actually prefer that the European versions are given the 'soft sell' as opposed to the stereotypical american 'hard-sell'. It looks cool on the intro screen though..(I thought that Dhabih did it!)

-Nice, clean job.
