ive decided to make a thread about everyones early pieces so that we can see exactly how far people have come in terms of skill and technique, weve all seen the newcomers works and laughed a little, but most forget that those odd and shabby pictures were more or less the same thing that the great digital artists were spewing out at the begining of their artistic journeys.
well since im just a beginner my self i think ill show you my second attempt at digital art, i drew this about 3 years ago when i was 13, then decided to colour it yesterday (not finished)

it would be great if thos with a lot more pieces of work to your name to show your very earliest work and then your most recent, just so that we can see a comparrison. |

Well, I haven't been working on the computer for so long... I can't exactly recall if this picture was drawn 1999 or not, but I think so. She's a roleplaying games character I've played for two years so that SHOULD be it.
Her name's Emily Haines. The character itself has changed somewhat throughout the years - she's gained more... well... dignity I guess you could say. I also forgot, somewhere along the way, that she originally had green eyes. So she now has blue. Anyway... this is it. Don't laugh at me, please =/

yeah, hehe, this is something I did back in 1993 or something. Too bad it's such a color optimized version, but I just found it on the net and I don't have it my own, hehe, but that doesn't matter!

On your right is first digital picture I ever did of Locke (and it was also my first digital picture ever) -it was done in Painter 5.0. And, on the left is a more recent depiction of the same character. I think it's safe to say that I've improved a little since 1998.

There are only a handful of people on the net who may remeber these. back when I first started doing digital art, a friends scanner, a mouse, and Paint Shop Pro. They're all about 2 years old.
Note the laziness with the Photo backgrounds.
And also, I just found this cleaning out some old boxes. It's apparently (according to my mothers record of how I described it) it's a sick man (in bed) touching Jesus'(the big guy in green) robes and being healed. My favorite part is the sick man's pink arm. It's reaching out for Jesus, but then changes course to grab His robe closer to the floor. And why Jesus has glowing red eyes? I'll never know. Hahahha, great to walk down memory lane like this.

This was a friend's character for Gemstone, I believe, a text-based online RPG. It has to be from '93 or so and I didn't even have it on my computer anymore, he sent it to me a while back after getting it off the site. Sorry about the quality.

An experiment in 1994. I thought that my paintings were too rich in color so I took black out of my pallet and painted this. Without black I was forced to mix colors more and not be so inclined to use them straight out of the tube.

This is one of the first digital pics I've ever done. It was made in MS Paint on a 12 Mhz 386 PC with 4Mb RAM and a 100 something Mb harddrive running Win 3.1 And I didn't use a wacom. imagine that. It was printed on a brand new HP laser printer. I think it was back in 1991 or 92. Since then this pic has been sitting on various doors, about three or four I think, and I was just to put it up on my latest door (just got a new room) when I saw this thread

Here's a piece I did when I was seventeen (1995). It was done in acrylics on board.
It sucks ass, I know.
Here's my latest piece (2001). Done entirely in Photoshop 6.
They don't have to be of the same subject matter do they?
Anyways............
Take it easy,
