This piece was a pain in my big white ass!
This started out as a part of a collogue I'm doing right now for the splash page of my new site, but it got more and more involved. So now it's a piece all its own. I'm not happy with everything about it, but I'm done and I'm just happy it's over with. This was my first real attempt at a 100% Photoshop piece. So at least I learned a few things. As I said befor, this was going to be a part of a larger piece. The title of that piece is "Inside" and it's a bunch of wierd shit from my head that's not really supposed to make sense. The first thing you're going to ask yourself when you see this is....."What happens when it runs out of bullets?" Your answer.........I don't know? The bullets just looked cool to me.
Check it out and let me know what ya think.
Take it easy,

PS.
Sorry for any miss spellings, but I'm really tired.
And I neber done lernded howz ta spellz. ![](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |

I like it mate.
Nice B-Grade horror crossed with modern hi-tech theme. Looks like a bit of effort has gone into it.
Only real crit I have is that the small lights emitting from the guns would have been better as small flames from the barrel flash. But that's just me.
Good stuff.

Hey thanks for the tip AJ. I had thought of that actually, but it's over with now (I spent almost 120 hours on this bitch.) And I just want to move on to the next.

I'd like a little more response to this. This was my first attempt at 100% photoshop piece.
What do you like, what do you hate?
I'm looking for a "popular" style, but I can't do that without more opinions.
Thanks for your time,

ooh ooh, let me try..
ok, I really like the composition.. the change of focus in the spider to smite that hapless human..
the fire/smoke in the background - has to be more crisp.. more detailed.. heavy smoke is always made of thick broiling ashes carried up by the heat of the fire.. just needs some more attention is all (and you can blur it once you're done in case it has too much focus - you'll retain the dirty feeling).
the spider's body.. perfectly shaped.. i like it.. but the speckles over the back shouldnt be there - its at night, there's no illumination above it, so they wouldn't show (unless they were meant to be glowing speckles.. but I can't see it as it is)
the leg thats smashing through the house roof.. there's no depth reference.. it doesn't look like that leg should be able to reach behind him.. depending on how you want to approach it - make the leg smaller, change the lighting on it, blur it to change focus.. darken it.. just needs something to give that reference saying it *is* behind the spider.
the miniguns are cool, but they either need a fire plume emitting from the barrels or tracer flares to indicate the passage of the bullets.. cover the spider up and it looks like the human is spontaniously exploding.
I love the sky/trees/phone lines/house silhouettes/window blinds. although, one thing.. the guy with the flashlight strikes me as indicating curiosity.. if there's a giant spider monster destroying your neighborhood and offing folk with two chainguns going full bore, you're gonna *know* there's some heavy shit going on perhaps bring him out of the shadows, define him a bit and give him a shotgun or rifle.. as if he's running out to defend his home at all costs from the invader. but that's a minor composition detail.. the rest applies to what you actually drew.
Really enjoyable for a 100% photoshop piece. congrats, and looking forward to more of your work. |

I think it's really hard to crit anyone's art work, especially when it's a cool piece.
Overall, very impressive stuff. 150 hour labor definitely shows. All the details are nicely treated.
I would say, though, that you might wanna focus more on bigger issues before getting into details. I'm not sure if I like the composition. The focal point isn't clear to me. I couldn't tell if I was supposed to look at the alian's face or the guy being shot at.
Details always should be a secondery thing.(in my opinion..) Obviously you're hard working and has a nice handle on little things! If you spend a bit more in the begining on bigger things, your stuff will be amazing Im sure.
good luck.
and again, very cool stuff |
