I know this thread will hardly generate any traffic whatsoever, but I need some critiques. I've been experimenting with new mediums and techniques lately and I'd like to know how it's being received by others. The first exhibit is an acrylic painting I did in about an hour. Mainly just a test of textures and trying to force myself to loosen up and be creative. I just kind of went crazy with this and did whatever I wanted to. How does it look?
I know... The composition sucks, the colors are bland, and the whole think reeks of sloppiness... But as I said, I'm just trying out new things... |

It's certainly different from your previous work I've seen, if I remember correctly.. but I'll try and forget the name and critique fairly..
It certainly works, and if it was a texture and loosening assignment that you gave yourself, I'd say that that worked as well... The darkness just screams at me, though. It's a very sad piece, but it fits my mood this past week, so you get my vote.. Great stuff..
Now let's see some of that other stuff.. You seem to be implying that this is just the beginning.... |

I like it, it defeinetely has a sense of presence. It's very different to your usual stuff (which is great) but keep going with this. Experimenting with new things is always going to be beneficial. ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

Definitely different from your previous works (that I've seen) but I really like it. A little change is always good, keeps your mind fresh and forces you to improve
I like all the texture in it.

hey Tinusch, u know what, i luv the texture. i too worked with acrylic before. and yes, the acrylic is a bit blanded, but it isn't just your painting. i haven't gotten a clue why, despite the fact that i used it for two years doing my illustration in college. i guess it's the nature of the this medium.
this piece don't really make me feel anyting, since you said u busted out in an hour. it just feels like something that i just do for practice too. the thing that bugs me is that the face. the highlights of the cheeks seems too hesitated. for the most part, the painting has energy and freedom dictated by the texture and strokes. I am sure you know what i mean. should maintain that spirit with the face as well. i haven't seen your previous work, because i am new here. but i like your attempt and intentions with this painting. i often struggle to do something different too to loosen up and broaden my knowledge and appreciation.
hope u didn't mind my crit. too often ppl of this forum claims that they don't always wanna hear kiss-ups replies, they just wanna make their work better. so i am giving you exactly that. |

Wow, thanks a lot all of you. This place rocks. I appreciate all the positive comments and the critiques. Thanks so very much.
faustgfx: This is scaled down about 50%... The original isn't even 1000x1000... Sorry, I'll try to scan it in at a higher resolution and see what I can come up with. |

Is 2304x1024 an actual resolution? Looks a little disproportionate... |

Well, here's an unnecessarily large version anyway. You may do with it as you please.

Ohhh, I see...
Well if you feel like downloading a 6MB JPG and screwing around with it, that one should be big enough. |
