Ahh.. nice to post again

Here are three images I completed in the past few weeks.

First one.. A guy in a city in the future, dwelling on the thought the world has come to ruin, there's no hope, everybody's sad.. that sort of thing.

Second one.. Unlike anything I've tried before.. a screaming guy, go figure.

Third one.. After seeing Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, I wanted to do some art after the movie, so I painted a girl version of the desert nomad rogue guy dressed in red.

Anyway, critique or comment of you'd like

Hey, these are beautiful, well except the middle one of the screaming guy, I don't care for that one.

The first one, in my opinion is flawless, very masterful, moody piece. Great textures on the face and overall color scheme.
The third one is a great piece as well, again a lot of mood to it and excellent textures. The only problem I see with it, and I've noticed this with some of your other work as well, is that her eyes are set way too high on her face and too far apart from each other. This is minor, but it does take away from an otherwise wonderful painting. I can't imagine this being too hard to fix in ps. either way I, overall, really like this image. I also think this is some of your best work.

I was looking at your site. There is a black and white painting of a girl with her eyes open very wide. I love that one. There is something about it that had me staring at it for a long time, beautiful eyes.

And I must add another thing which you'll probably hate me for, but you are amazing for your age, I had just realized how old you were. Which art school are you going to go to in September?

The first image is very nice, although I think you should try to be more confident with your brushstrokes, and not to use a too low opacity brush. Right now you can see all these small semi-transparent brushstrokes, and it'd be better if it all was "solid". Second one looks to be a bit too sketchy, needs some solid lines.
Third, pretty nice, it also sufferes a bit of the same problems as the first, it needs some solid confident strokes. But nice colors and subject. There seems to be something wrong with her head, you should lower her eyes.

wow, that first one is excellent, looks quite realistic, very cool shadows. I quite like the second one too. The third I don't like that much, looks abit overworked.

Hey,

I love the third one. Personally I like the feel the less opaque brush strokes give it. The lighting is fantastic, really gives it a mood. My crit would be to pull out the right arm a bit, its getting lost to the point where it kinda blends into the torso.

The first and third are very moving. Immediatley, when I saw the first pic, I literally said out loud, "Ah, man, that's nice." Great dreary emotion on him, and again, love the mood of the 3rd.

The screaming guy isn't anywhere near par, compared to the others. Flush it (my recommendation).

Im with Mike on the second pic. Its intresting and all but with those other two in there it dosnt stand a chance.

You are a very very talented girl Curly. Beond me and my talents. Great stuff.

One thing I need to do more of and I think you may want to try is placeing the character in an enviroment. Where the enviroment is most of the picture and the character is just standing in it.

"Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" is a Kung-Fu (or "Gung-Fu") flick. Kung-Fu is a Chinese Martial Art. Samurais are Japanese.

The first of the three is very nice. Excellent use of light and dark creating a dark moody piece. really like it...

Might have been even better with a bit more detail suggested (just suggested) in the guy's jacket or tunic...

Adigra - I'll fix the face next time I touch the image, and I know what you mean. This actually started as a self portrait, and I always make my nose too long when i try that. It often happens.. that's probably why it turned out this way.

Binke - I've been told that before.. about the brush strokes being semi-transparent and all that. I'm keeping in mind what you're saying about solidity, and trying it out on an image I'm working on. Thanks for the advice!

feebsaint - Heya Mike! Wow.. I'm glad you liked it. Looking at your artwork and seeing that often you start on a colored background, I decided to try it myself. Most of the pics I did recently follow that idea.. thanks for the inspiration. Yea, I'll flush that second one.. it is pretty bad. I guess different isn't necessarily better.

Blitz - *crazy wave* *blush* Yea, I know I'm going to try doing some 'scenes'.. I've been meaning to try that for a while now.

Of course we're friends.
Sorry, I just hate when people "glom" things like that together. (I.E. Chinese/Japanese, Mexican/Spanish, Scottish/Irish) They may be similar in ways, but they are still separate and vastly different. It's just not cool ya know?
As far as your art-
I like the first and last ones, the middle one just doesn't work for me.

Hmm, I've not heard of that school, but I don't venture up north very often.

If the paintings I talked about are self portraits you must be a very pretty girl.

I was reading some of the replies above. The one about the opacity of your brushes. I, in fact, really like the look you get just the way you do. I mean change the way you do things if you feel like it, but not because someone's critique. I think what you have going on is wonderful.

Don't let the criticism of the second picture keep you away from experimenting. It's just that this particular one doesn't compare to the other two. But it looks as if it was done very fast and loose. I most definitelly wouldn't "junk" it as sugested, but keep as a lesson and an experiment.

There are a few simple ways to keep your (facial) proportions in check and avoid the problem with the long nose or eyes being too high. I'm not gonna go into it righ now, but if you're interested I can do a quick sketch/explanation and post it later. You might already know this and I really don't mean to insult you.
