painted over a scanned oil painting of mine. i think it helped me to get some color variation i wanted. do you think the contrast is ok or should there be more darker darks or something? anyway, tell me what you think of it:

very cool janne, great colours. The only thing that bugs me is the guy in the foreground's face seems like its glowing. I think dropping the levels on the face some might look better.. |

Too good!
Kinda like a western variant of the bad guys from Dark City...
Darker darks might make the whole thing look a bit sharper if you put'em in the right places... I think the lower half of the image should be a bit darker, as well as thin shadow lines here and there. But still... DAMN this is a cool paintint!

Perhaps u need to make the guys stand out more from the background? With contrast colors or a halo of some kind. |

Nice brooding image. I have to wonder out loud if the colors are kind of muddy - you might want more color in the darks - did you use a warm green and ochre? Perhaps bump up the pigment strength and use cadmium and viridian...?

Your background is well-done. It brings attention to the character's hat (it somehow seems like a glowing pattern). And some of the strokes look like hand prints. Very creepy. |

I think it has good contrast and the backround fits nicely. This reminds of
that film darkcity. Good work Janne. |

nice one Janne. Only thing that I would change or at least give a little attention is the front guys hands. The seem a little to defined compared to his sleves and arms and the area around it. They take to much attention away from the nice painted face of the main figure. On the other 'hand' if you wanted it this way please feel free to ignore me... Any chance you could show the oilpainting?

Great image janne! I get the Dark City feeling too. Don't really have anything to add, maybe adding more contrast between the secondary figures and the background? |

Incredible...!
Reminds me more of Alan Moores 'V for Vendetta' than Dark City, though... |

hey janne, love the image and all but if the face is lit so much shouldnt part of the body be lit in the same way??...inless you intentially lit the face that way to draw attention to it??..anywho..your oils are keew |

This is really nice, I like...Especially the hands and face on the main guy. Maybe the background charachters could stand out a bit more though, otherwise it's great |

a lot of very valuable comments, thanks everyone!
Cos: the "glowing" face bit is intentional but if it bugs you, then haven't succeeded executing it as planned... hmm.
Gaxar: thanks! i had dark city in mind when i was doing this so... i'll have to try some darker darks out in future pics.
ANJ-77: hmm. perhaps... i just thought it should be enough if that central guy's head stands out with value contrast but it might be more effective if used more in the pic.
marc_taro: very good point. i tried to take care of those muddy colors when i went to digital but i guess it just slipped from me. have to pay more attention to that next time.
boom: quite many people have already commented those hands so i guess it was not very wise move to make them stand out like that it was intentional but still... the oil painting is crappy and it's only a detail scan. it's completely different subject too, i used it for the texture(and some colors) only.
Grendel Khan: it's dark city inspired for sure yep, at least some contrast somewhere in the image would do good i think...
