it's not my first... just the first that i've been really happy with (about the fourth, actually) and the sketch was done in phoshop as well. not pencil. |

Hey there.
I'm not sure how you feel about redos/overpaints. but I'm bad at explainin' fings wid words.
so here goes
I just coloured one of the line drawings out of your steps gif.
the main problem I see is you're not defining the forms. if you go with flat colour there's no problem. but the strokes that you are using are not really sepperating the light and dark. go for bolder, more simple shapes of colour to begin with. this gets everything working on the larger scale. that's is all I've done here.
you can leave it with the kinda cell shaded look or develop the rendering more. doesn't matter.
use a bigger brush to start off with. it wil make sure that you don't get so much of the "photoshop brush look".
also, if you change it to greyscale you can see the yellow lighting on the face is not any lighter in value to the white of the skin in that area. this is making it look like he just has some yellow paint on his face or something. it's not coming across as a yellow light.
there are lot's of ways you could handle a coloured light source (in my example I've chosen to ignore it altogether) depending on what sort of style you're after.
change the entire colour scheme more towards that colour, seeing as everything is lit from the coloured light. making the lit side yellow when you sepperate shaddow and light etc. hard to judge.
try to emphasise the light and dark with warm and cool colours in opposition. cool highlighs and warm shaddows etc.
it's a great drawing, a lot of style and animation. once you get a hang of the colour side of thigns you will be pushing out some really great stuff=)
hope this helps more than hinders=) (and makes some kinda sense) |

Naroth looks like my friend Chang Haur, but not in this picture. I like the glow and that 'painterly' feel in the second picture, it's definitely got more mood. The brush strokes are beautiful. Damn you people with tablets
Aysha Seishim rocks, by the way. |

woohoo. alright. here's my version of errikan. i'm tryin some stuff. still gettin the hang of phoshop (the DEVIL) but i'm gettin there. this one has a bit of a more manual background. isn't that exciting? can't wait to do the final two. (even though we'll have to stick to torsos for those... since we don't have definitive full body shots.) without further ado. and please, feel free to tell me what i'm doin wrong.
same setup as last time.
oh yeah, here's a sketch that i gave up on for this character. i didn't like where it was heading, and it wasn't heading where i would have liked. :P
enjoy

Nice Hamilton. I wasen't expecting that pose (I still think you should have continued with that first one). Any how, it's going to be tough to get all 3 chracters done, but here's the first. a redo of Errikan:

I suppose I died and went to heaven... or at least I think I did... Damn you guys for drawing my characters five million times better than I ever could.
And Jezebel, I used to be here, heh. I got turned off for a while... and I mean a while... but I'm considering coming back. =) When I have time, that is... oy.
You know, Isric, I've always wondered what'd my characters would like like if you drew them. Or if Travis Charest drew them... or Joe Madiurera... and so on and so on. Heh. Hamilton you are simply wonderful as well... but I met you more recently and the wondering always comes later. c.c
I almost died when I found this... It took me some time before I was able to breathe again and post... (meep) You two are quite mad. These? For me? Give me a few years to grasp the concept. I mean, I have an email I've been meaning to send you, Isric, I suppose now I feel I kinda owe it to you... heh.
Let's say I'm impressed by your Naroth, Hamilton... his outfit drives me crazy from the -front-, and you drew him from -behind-! Hah! And Isric, there's that second Errikan... reeow. =) So rugged. The first one though, he's even more of a pansy than I even have the nerve to draw him. (snicker)
And also I have to offer kudos on spelling my name right each and every time! Even I have trouble with it sometimes, hahaha. =p

ok. TOO MUCH! I have to draw Naroth now, I meant what I said - he really resembles Chang Haur, it's scary when the guy's motto is 'Big Brain Grow Grass'. Don't ask.
Hope you don't mind, Aysha... |

Arrgh! You guys are killing me here! This is the best Astral I've ever seen! The colors, the lighting, the background, the pose, Hamilton she's amazing... Is this what you were working on while we were talking last night, you dickens, you?
Mwah, I dunno if I'll ever fully recover from this experience. I'm not sure if I want to. =) |

whooo... last one.
i have mixed deelings about the outcome of this one. i like the drawing in and of it self, but i'm not good at drawing women, and i think it shows. it's not EXACTLY finished, but it's as finished as i'm ever gonna make it. i think you've all experienced that feeling before. i didn't make the gif this time, cuz i forgot to do it. but i included my original sketch. this one was drawn on paper, then scanned and "inked" in photoshop. a process that i now love and hate all at the same time. i hat the process of inking... so tedious... but i always love the outcomes. if you want to see this drawing in fullsized 400K glory, by all means click this link. and, without further ado...
enjoy
and crits are welcome and appreciated. |
